Slab pies.
I see pictures of them here and there and they intrigue me. I add them to my want-to list!!!
It looks fun.
This berry pie with stars studded across the top catches my attention.
The recipe and beautiful pictures are right over here at Wife.Mama.Foodie.
I ride in the combine with my husband on Thursday before Independence Day weekend. I toss around the idea of inviting a few friends over on Sunday. We decide to and I know what dessert I’m going to make. I was thinking of making it anyway because it sounds delicious and the stars are perfect for the fourth-of-July.
I used the gluten-free option for the crust. I mixed and stirred and the berry filling was fun to put together. The berries glistened and shined as I stirred and let the mixture thicken.
I place the berry filling in the prepared dough and smooth it out with my spatula. I try a taste and it is delicious.
I find my star cutters and I begin to cut shapes to scatter across the berries.
Carefully, I cover the length of my pan leaving gaps.
The turbinado sugar feels sandy between my fingers and looks so beautiful as it dusts my stars.
Making something lovely and feeding friends and family.
Baking has been one of my creative outlets for half of forever. It has taken me a loooong time to realize it.
Rolling up butterhorns.
Shaping pie crust.
Mixing Monster Cookies.
Making cookies and cut-outs with my littles and one of my best friends.
Combining peanut butter and marshmallows and butter and Rice Krispies for crunchy treats.
I place my slab pie on my table and cross my kitchen for my camera. I want to capture pictures, of course.
I find some leftover fruit to add some color for the photos.
I eat a few of the blueberries. They have been luscious. Mmmm. The flavor bursts against my tongue.
Tangy, sweet and tasting of blue. Does blue have a taste? Somehow it seems to.
Life’s gifts and beautifuls and little pleasures.
I never want to stop searching for them or take them for granted.
I need them.
Life has way too many ways of hurting or scaring or disappointing to give up on beauty and gratitude and the wonderful of daily routine.
What have you been baking up lately?
