FIRST……………we have a delightfully fun giveaway at the end of this post! Zonderkidz is gifting a Surprise Bundle of six children’s Christmas books to one of YOU, my comrade blog friends! I’m super excited about this fun idea! I don’t even know which books they are sending. They sent me a lovely box of Christmas books, along with The Beginner’s Bible and The Jesus Storybook Bible. I was delighted! I love children’s books. I’m showcasing several in this post.
It’s finally {S L O W L Y} dawned on me that I can enjoy collecting children’s books even if my kiddos aren’t, well, children anymore. Little children anyway. They’ll always, always be my kids! 🙂
I still gravitate toward the children’s section in a bookstore. Most children’s sections are bright and cheery, filled with books bursting with color and rhyme and great illustrations and laughter and delight!
I signed up for a children’s book club when my daughter was a little over a year old. I chose If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Winnie-the-Pooh and Madeline, and we were on our way to filling our bookshelves! 🙂
Be sure to enter the giveaway!!! I can’t wait to see which books the winner receives!
Second…………my Advent readings…………… do you have a book you’re reading for Advent?
{We loved reading the Arnold Ytreeide books for Advent when my kiddos were younger….smaller….shorter…}
If you’re seeking a peaceful Advent audio, Emily P. Freeman is offering The Quiet Collection. Pop over here to check it out!
For this Christmas season and Advent this year, I ordered the illustrating Bible book of Luke and I absolutely love it. Somehow, having just the book of Luke in a spiral form to read, write and interact with, is really resonating with me.
I loved the idea of this book the first time I saw it. I didn’t order it right away and kept returning to the idea, musing over it. I wasn’t honestly sure if I would actually use the book to its full potential.
I thought it would be a neat addition to my bookshelves, yet I certainly didn’t “need” it. Was it silly to order it when I own more than one Bible and they all contain the book of Luke?!
As December crept closer, I still entertained the idea of this illustrating Bible. When an idea persists, I do pay attention. A super-duper sale and a coupon code found me adding this book to my online cart and completing the checkout process.
{Completing the checkout process are keywords here. I’ve often blithely added items to my cart and then clicked away, never to return!} 🙂
I really love the sturdy spiral on this book. It makes it super easy to flip it flat and write along the margins.
I’ve long loved these verses describing Zechariah and Elizabeth.
Luke 1:5-6
In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah, and whose wife Elizabeth was a daughter of Aaron. Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and decrees of the Lord.
Along with the book of Luke, I’m reading The Advent of the Lamb of God by Russ Ramsey.
Two quotes from this book I underlined and meditated on:
“Everything else the Maker had created according to His imagination, but mankind He made according to His image.” ~ Russ Ramsey
“What set human beings apart from everything else was their relationship with the God they were created to know and enjoy forever.” ~ Russ Ramsey
If you want or need another Advent book idea, God Came Near by Max Lucado is a good one!
My Christmas Tree Story
Isn’t this little shaped book adorable?
It rhymes and the text is all about God’s love and the Christmas story!
“I’ll start out with a tall fir tree
that’s green throughout the year
Through winter cold and summer heat
a sign of life and cheer.
God’s love is like this evergreen
the leaves don’t go away
God’s love doesn’t change. He stays with us
and loves us every day.”
Mouse’s Christmas Gift
Mouse realizes something isn’t right. Where is the nativity in the church? Where is Pastor? Can Mouse do something to help the Christmas Eve service happen as it always has?
This is a sweet story. It reminds us that the little things we do, matter. We may think our actions aren’t noticed, but we often don’t realize the way they touch and inspire other people.
Christmas Cookie Day
This board book is adorable!
It rhymes! It’s about cookies and baking! The pictures are bright and cheery and cozy! It promotes a giving heart!
What more could you want?!
A Night of Great Joy by Mary Engelbreit
I’ve loved Mary Engelbreit’s artwork ever since I was a kid. I was thrilled to find this book in my box. It tells the Christmas story through a children’s pageant and the pictures are charming, colorful, and whimsical.
Merry Christmas Nighty Night by Micheal W. Smith and Mike Nawrocki
This is a board book with a padded cover. Once again…..super cute! Rhyming text tells the story about Cole and his little sister Rose. The children are struggling to settle to sleep on the night before Christmas! It has a rhythm very much like The Night Before Christmas.
Mom and Dad pray a sweet prayer with the children and then the children’s three stuffed animals sing Silent Night to them as they drift off to sleep!
We’ve had some giveaways for books by author, Glenys Nellist. This beautiful picture book is by her!
Twas the Evening of Christmas
Beautiful pictures and again, the text rhymes and is a Twas the Night Before Christmas rhythm.
The first stanza says……………..
“Twas the evening of Christmas, when all through the town,
Every inn was so crowded, no room could be found,
Tired Mary and Joseph, who went door to door,
At last found a place on a small stable floor.”
Berenstain Bears, of course! I loved the Berenstain Bears when I was young and loved reading them to my little people! Zonderkidz has several great BB titles!
Your Spark by Lisa Leonard
Another title I was super happy to find in my box. Lisa Leonard was one of the first bloggers I read online, and I wanted to get her children’s book sometime.
This book shares the message of the unique way God created each of us. It encourages everyone to shine bright with kindness and creativity. Together we can make the world shine!
I love the nameplate page in this book! Paste in a photograph and write your child’s name!
I love a creative twist and this book has one!
A Savior is Born
The pictures in this book are created with rocks. My daughter would have loved re-creating these when she was younger. I’m sending this idea along to a friend whose son would likely love this idea!
Aren’t the pictures so cool?! L O V E this!
All right, friends! Enter below for the Christmas Book Bundle, and share Christmas titles YOU love, with me!
