I received a copy of Unashamed to read and review and FlyBy Promotions is generously giving away a copy to one of YOU!!!
Unashamed ~ Healing our Brokenness and Finding Freedom From Shame.
Earlier this year I read Rising Strong by Brene Brown. You can go over here to this Yarn Along post where I talk a bit about it.
Heather Davis Nelson writes that Brene Brown’s TED talks and books helped illuminate the role shame had in her own story. HeatherΒ shares her story and faith and points herself and all of us to Jesus and who we are in Him.
I also read Brene Brown’s I Thought it Was Just MeΒ (but it isn’t)Β last year.
Unashamed has been an encouraging and inspiring read. It’s also an easy read. I am glad I’ve read Brene’s books. I liked them and springing from that into Unashamed which contains the Biblical emphasis has been very enjoyable.
We all deal with shame and feelings of wondering who we are and if we are enough.
Heather Davis Nelson shares several beautiful Psalms in the first chapter.
“O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me.” Psalm 25:2
And this quote from Brene Brown ~
Fitting in is about assessing a situation and becoming who you need to be to be accepted. Belonging, on the other hand, doesn’t require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are.Β
The back of the book says this ~
Shame never disappears in solitude, and Heather Davis Nelson invites us to not only be healed of our own shame but also be part of a healing for others. She shines the life-giving light of the gospel on the things that leave us feeling worthless and rejected, giving us courage to walk out of shame’s shadows and offering hope for our brokenness.Β
I love the names of the chapters and how she deals with different topics and covers different areas in our lives.
1. Exchanging Shame for Beauty
2. Living Shamelessly through Christ-Formed Community
3. Clothed in Christ: Body Shame
4. United to Christ: Social Shame
5. Free in Christ: Performance Shame
6. Response to Shame
7. Shame in Marriage
8. Shame-Free Parenting
9. Shame and Church
Oh my goodness! Sometimes, I so wonder about my typing skills! I keep mistyping Unashamed. My fingers stumble over themselves. I don’t know if it’s my typing skills or my brain! Ha! {Perhaps both???}

I’ve really enjoyed listening to Brene Brown’s talks on Shame. Powerful stuff. This book Unashamed sounds great – coming from a Bibilical perspective.
