I’ ve been looking forward to this book from Anne Bogel! It’s definitely on my list of favorites I’ve read in 2020. Yes, I know, we’re only two months into 2020, but this book will stay on my list.
I have loved all of Anne Bogel’s books. Reading People was her first and circles conversation around people and personality types. She delves into brief overviews of personality typing and tests. I was first introduced the the Enneagram by Anne in Reading People. As a personality buff, I was intrigued. I began at once as a student of the Enneagram and continue learning more about. I find it a useful tool on several levels when it comes to interacting with people, relationships, and life. Not to even mention, how helpful it is in understanding myself and what makes me tick, why things make me ticked, and why life looks like it does for me.
Her second book, I’d Rather Be Reading, is a grand collection of essays about the power, beauty, and dilemmas of the reading life! The byline for this book is The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life. IF you love to read, even a little bit, give yourself the gift of immediately clicking over to Amazon, Barnes and Noble or your favorite indie bookstore and ordering this book. Anne catches it superbly well! Better YET……go ahead and order all three of her books. Your future reading self will thank you!!!
In Don’t Overthink It, Anne talks about routines and rituals and differentiates between the two. My idealistic dreamerism was fascinated with pondering the aspects of both and how they play out in our lives and impact how we live out our days.
Anne writes, “At first blush, rituals and routines have much in common. The difference between the two is not necessarily the action but the attitude behind it. A routine is done for expediency. Ritual is something we do with a higher purpose in mind. How we think about things changes the way we experience them. Rituals can be done regularly, built around small things.”
I loved this.
It means we can create a multitude of small things into meaningful moments in the midst of our every day. We can shape the trajectory of the rhythms, routines, and rituals we want flowing through our days.
I really love Anne’s practical way of looking at life and how she processes her struggles, fears, and overwhelm in the pages with us. I so appreciate how she seeks to stretch and grow and discern the whys behind the reactions and actions we find in our lives.
In easy, chat-over-coffee, conversational style, {which we all know is the best} 😉 Anne Bogel is our friend and guide ready to lead us out of our overthinking ditch.
In the pages of this book, she shares relaxed candor, real-life stories, and practices she’s put in place to escape decision overwhelm and fatigue.
Purchasing this book is one decision that requires absolutely no overthinking! Well done, Anne!
Each chapter concludes with a section titled Next Steps and questions to prompt you along your decision pathway.
I’d love to hear if you think this book may be next on your to-read list! If you read it, I’d love to hear about it! Shout out on the blog, DM me on Instagram, or shoot me an email! Happy, happy day friends! The sunshine is gorgeous today in Kansas!
