Continued from Christmas Eve….
We tucked into our covers and slept soundly…
{No visions of sugarplums dancing in our heads…that I am aware of}
BUT, there was an idea that had been in someone’s head for quite a while…
And while I thought everyone was sleeping soundly………some just didn’t get there quite as quickly……
During the night, a magical decorating fairy had “Christmased” our house!
A lovely fairy with a strong resemblance to my daughter ~
I was somewhere between that not asleep, not completely awake, awake enough to be aware, but not ready to be too awake or crawl out of the warm covers yet……..
I realized that my husband had been up and was climbing back in bed beside me.
“Are you awake?” he asked in a semi-whisper.
I acknowledged that I was somewhat wakeful.
“You should go to the kitchen and get a drink,” he told me.
Now, this piqued my curiosity.
I don’t know how it is in your house, but that isn’t an at-all-normal-morning greeting at our house.
Hmmm.
Christmas morning.
What’s in the kitchen?
I climbed out of bed.
It didn’t take me long to find out what the mystery was.
I walked into the living room and spied this banner and sign.
Joy to the World!
Followed the footprints…
And entered the kitchen to find Christmas colors and snowflakes and decorations and lots of love mixed into it all.
I ventured down the basement steps and the Christmas fairy had been hard at work down there, too.
It was such fun!
Realizing the planning and creating and work and fun she’d had getting ready and then stealthily waiting until mom and dad were sleeping sound.
Creeping down the stairs, avoiding any creaks, cringing when she dropped an ornament in the kitchen…
Even the laundry room had some extra touches of Christmas added!
In so many ways the years are galloping by so swiftly, yet there are so many fun things about older kiddos!
I loved each part of the decor she put up during the middle of the night and I was so glad she pulled off her plan and we didn’t awaken!
I don’t always look at it this way or think about it every day, but moments are here and gone and memories are made and treasured so quickly.
Simple or complex.
Big or little.
Delighting in the details.
I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes! I love this so very much and it is so very very much your daughter to do something like this. What an amazing memory she made for you – tell her A. Jill thinks shes pretty awesome!
