I did some cooking and baking this week and I was flipping through a few cookbooks and recipes when I landed on this recipe. It is a favorite and I had not made it for a long time. So, I whipped up a batch. They are pretty and they are tasty and they are also pretty tasty!
You can also turn this recipe into Glazed Peach Squares or Glazed Blueberry Squares or Glazed Raspberry Squares or Glazed Apple Squares. Basically, Glazed Whatever-Kind-of-Fruit-Filling you want to use!
They make a good dessert bar or cookie or breakfast sweet treat!
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp lemon extract
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 T. milk
Instructions
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat well.
Add flour, vanilla, lemon extract, baking powder and salt. Stir till combined
Transfer to a greased 9x13 baking dish
Cut the surface of batter into desired number of squares.
Spoon pie filling onto each square.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes until golden.
Cool.
Combine glaze ingredients and drizzle on top of squares.
Ready to be devoured!
Notes
You can use all vanilla instead of the lemon flavoring or you can substitute almond flavoring for the lemon.
You can also substitute another kind of pie filling for the cherry and make whatever kind of fruit squares sounds good!
Ready to go in the oven!
Done and done!
