This morning I’m considering…
What would I especially wish for if I had to replace all my earthly possessions?
In the Kingdom of God, we know value and life and eternal significance lies in things unseen and beyond our physical realm of life here.
However, many of us are given lives filled with dishes and paper towels and books and pens and iPods and laundry soap and lemons and artwork and pillows and violins and paper clips and postage stamps.
We have garden gloves and work gloves and snow gloves.
There’s potting soil and houseplants and knitting needles and yarn. Schoolbooks and notebooks and scissors and glue.
Scarves and skirts and jeans and t-shirts.
Perhaps it’s canning jars and Instant Pot, Crock-Pot and a knife block.
Our lives brim with useful tools and beauty and cozy blankets and inspiring activities and musical instruments and sports jerseys and running shoes.
And we are grateful.
Can we live without them? Certainly!
Do they add ease and enjoyment? Indeed.
In many ways.
A neighbor of ours lost their home and every bit of their possessions and collections, from safety pins to heirloom quilts, in a house fire at the beginning of this year.
Our community is holding a miscellaneous shower for her at the end of this month.
I sat in the sunshine by my open front door this morning and considered what I might especially wish to have replaced.
Outside of the irreplaceable, {photo albums, heirloom dishes, pieces passed down through the family, one-of-a-kind artwork,} what would you choose?
I would miss my Kitchen Aid mixer, my books, my favorite gold dotted blanket from Beddys.
I use my Thirty-One bags often and shake Young Living essential oils into my diffuser.
I open a drawer for envelopes without thinking twice about it and staple papers together still warm from my printer.
I’d miss my laptop and my collection of pens, pencils, and markers. I like my coffee bean grinder and my flowered notebook from Rifle Paper Co.
Cookbooks and french rolling pin and my vintage Candlewick from the antique store.
Here’s the question for you today, ADG comrades!
What are three of your personal favorites or items you would especially miss and might gift to someone as they re-establish hearth and home?

Oh wow. I am so sorry to hear about your friend’s loss. The first thing I thought of if I lost everything in a fire was my Bible. It is so dear to me because I have read it so much and it contains so many notes. Maybe I’d give my friend a new Bible. Or a new bed quilt. Or a new outfit. Maybe a pillow or dishes.
Love,
Ashley

Yes. So many things which are really irreplaceable.
I like your gift ideas.

What a thoughtful post. If I had a picture of their family I would frame it and give it to her, some bath goodies so she could relax and a journal to get all the thoughts out.

Fabulous ideas! A friend and I were discussing the value of gifting some items like the bath goodies that you might not just go buy yourself when everything needs to be replaced!
