Back before Christmas and right after my surgery, I commenced to making pom-poms! And they were absolutely fun to do!
My main purpose for making them was to make a wreath.
The pom-poms look so very cute just piled in a basket, too! They became part of my Christmas decor for a while.
I’ve used a few on gift packages as well, and I want to make a garland with some.
My daughter made me some pom-pom bookmarks. They’re over in this post.
Soon after the first of they year, I pulled out my supplies and assembled my wreath.
You will need pom-poms!
This post has information about the pom-pom makers and yarn I used.
One 18 inch straw wreath form unless you want to do more than one wreath, of course!
Keep the form wrapped in the plastic it comes in.
Pins.
Mine are Dritz Size 21 extra-long satin pins. They are just what I found and picked up at Wal-Mart.
There are some that are similar here on Amazon or here.
I also think these pins with the pearlized heads could be handy??? The head of the pin might be nice for helping anchor the pom-poms. I haven’t tried it, and my straight pins worked fine, but I do think the ball would add an extra stopping point.
UPDATE: I have started using a hot glue gun to attach the pom-poms to the wreath form. It is simpler and easier, I think and it offers a better and secure hold. 🙂
Start putting your pom-poms on the wreath form and begin pinning them in place. I had very simple straight pins. I ended up using two pins in most of the pom-poms for a secure hold.
I don’t know how many pom-poms I used. I didn’t think about counting them. It also depends on what size pom-poms you make.
I had some gray pom-poms and tried them out in the mix and decided I didn’t want them in the wreath.
I ended up using white, tan and green pom-poms.
I think an all white wreath would be pretty.
I didn’t have enough white pom-poms to do all white in this size and I do like the mix of colors.
I wasn’t exactly sure what I was wanting when I ordered yarn, and I just played around with it.
Thus, this is the wreath I ended up with!
I think a small wreath with soft pink pom-poms would be really pretty for Valentine’s Day. I don’t think it will happen BY Valentine’s Day this year, but I’m keeping the idea in mind. Besides it would work well for spring, too! I don’t have any pink yarn for pom-poms right now, otherwise it wouldn’t take that long to make.
I wanted to hang my wreath, so I dug out some twine that I have and used a length of that to hang it in place.
Here it is on my door! {Hands clapping!}
This is really pretty!
Thank-you! It was so fun to make.
