Hello to the last week in September!
Our weather started out last week with a foggy, gray, dampish Monday. It progressed into some hot weather and ended the week with perfect weather. Seventies, cool air, not windy, sunny, just absolutely gorgeous. CAN NOT BE BEAT.
As always the week winged by. One of the older ladies from my Bible study group stopped by to return a dvd and chatted for a while…we ate lunch at Pizza Hut with the couple who owns the irrigation systems that Matthew has been checking this summer…we baby-sat for a couple of dear little girls for a few hours while their mama worked on unpacking boxes at their new house…
Hello corn chip salad! So yummy!
I backed up videos and pictures that the kiddos have taken. They had some funny videos that I’d never seen. Renae fixed the torn pages in several books for me. They’ve been waiting to be fixed for a very long time. Realizing it was highly likely I would keep procrastinating at getting this job done, I had the inspiration to hand the job over. She soon had them done and enjoyed doing it. I love and appreciate the huge help my kiddos give in performing various tasks like this!
I canned some more potatoes and the kiddos took advantage of the cool afternoons and evenings we had and spent a lot of time outside. I tried this spaghetti sauce recipe and thought it was yummy. I just taste-tested and haven’t used it in anything yet, so we’ll see. It was super-duper easy! I used tomatoes from the garden instead of canned and I blended it up for a smooth texture after it was done cooking. I also didn’t do the peppercorn cranks, because I don’t have peppercorns and I used course sea salt because I’m out of kosher salt. I didn’t do the onion either. I just used some minced. So, basically I used this recipe as an outline to go by. 🙂
Did you know there was a “Talk Like a Pirate Day”? Me either! Although I might vaguely remember mention of it last year. September 19th is the day. One of the consultants in my Lilla Rose fb group shared this photo and I thought it was clever and fun! If you make it through the Sea of Scrunchies you can find a flexi for your own here at my Lilla Rose site. 🙂
It’s interesting how many things out there have a “day”. I wonder who comes up with it all. I’ve seen a listing before of a whole bunch of them, but once again I don’t really remember too much about it or where it was.
My husband told me, that a friend had told him, about the pirate day. Krispy Kreme was giving away a dozen donuts to anyone who came in dressed up like a pirate and talking like a pirate. Our friends were going to the city on the 19th and were planning to stop by Krispy Kreme!!
We started cutting some corn on Wednesday, but it was still a little too wet. So, Matthew and Tucker did some other things like moving tin and working at cleaning up some other junk in the pasture area behind the house. Saturday found the corn dry enough and cutting corn commenced. Hoping to get some corn posts posted sooner rather than later…
Hello Modern {Farm} Art Sculpture!!
When we went to clean this week, we found out that the drs. office has started an Urgent Care after hours from 5 to 7 in the evenings on Monday through Thursday and on Saturday morning. This is going to affect our cleaning schedule flexibility somewhat. I’m not sure how it’s going to work out. Guess we’ll give it a try and see what we think!
We started attending a Bible study group on Sunday evenings. They are working through a curriculum by Ken Hamm. It is very interesting and we were excited because we’ve been watching a video series of Ken Hamm’s recently, so it all ties in well together.
Last Sunday after the study, we spent the evening chatting, eating a yummy sandwich loaf and popcorn, and playing games at our friends’ house.
Yummy Blueberry Squares! Recipe here…just use blueberry filling instead of cherry!
Ah, beautiful milo! I’m definitely starting to think fall. I love the beauty of the dried corn ready to cut and the ripening milo. We made pumpkin cake and apple cake this week and they both are recipes I think about as the summer slips into autumn. And both recipes I want to post….eventually!
Renae had the highlight of the week this week! She jetted off with a neighbor to go visit our friends who are living in Idaho for a year. It all worked out at the last minute and we were excited for her to have this opportunity. Our friends have a daughter who is seven weeks younger than Renae and they are great friends! Renae was going to surprise her. Looking forward to hearing more details about the surprise. My friend texted me and sent a picture of the girls and said that she had a VERY excited daughter. Tucker was a little grumped out at first, because one of his best friends belongs to this family too. PLUS, flying on an airplane, you know. But, I think he will be just fine and he spent the whole day with dad yesterday, most of which was in the corn field. We’ve really, really wanted to go visit our friends, and were hoping to at the end of August. The weather and other details didn’t play out right for that to happen though.
This was Renae’s first time flying commercially that she will remember. We flew a couple of times when she was under two and she has flown in a helicopter. She was excited! When I was growing up we would go to the airport just to watch airplanes landing and taking off. My dad and brother have always liked airplanes and we would walk to the different terminals and basically tour the airport. During my daughter’s lifetime, we have almost always had increased airport security. Visiting an airport, just because, isn’t an option anymore, so she really hasn’t been familiar with flying. Just scenes in a movie etc.
Then to add to her adventure, they got bumped because their flight was full and were given airline vouchers good for a year! She’s getting quite an introduction to traveling. 🙂
Matthew and I talked about reaching this season where our daughter is growing up and becoming more independent. It’s such a mixture of happy and sad and excitement and trusting in God. I also thought a good bit about the blessing and willingness of our young neighbor lady to ask Renae to accompany her. She wouldn’t have had to, and I know it causes a little more work and sacrifice on her part.
And one last thing…this is a great read about marriage ~ 7 Habits of a Hot Marriage in the Middle of Monotony. I appreciate Kristen’s way of writing and perspective of real life.
I’m signing off……I think we will be saying hello to a busy week this week! Have a great one!

Our dreary weather cleared and left behind blue skies as well! We had a beautiful weekend!

Thanks for coming by! I’ve definitely been thinking fall with the cooler mornings and evenings!
So exciting that Renae got to fly! And she really should use that ticket to come to Ohio now! I’m so missing all of you – can’t believe it’s been since Christmas! life has been so busy this year with so many changes and happenings. I don’t think about it often because things are so busy but seeing pics of your house and farm and kids just makes me homesick for all of you – and that big ole Kansas sky – and the bit of slower pace you have out there than we have here!
