I was intrigued with the heart-shaped dishcloth pattern that I mentioned last week. I made two and I loved seeing them emerge.
My yellow one came out larger. I actually really like the look of the pink one. For using, though, I think the size of the yellow one might actually be nicer.
I used bigger needles for the yellow one. BUT, there is a step in the pattern where you are supposed to knit 15 rows and the rows are all the same. You aren’t adding or decreasing any stitches. I got mixed up on both dishcloths and wasn’t exactly sure of my count, so I’m guessing that was also a factor to the size difference!
Here’s the pattern on Ravelry, if you want it. And it’s free!
I also worked on my mitt project again. I can see a bit of a pattern emerging, so that is exciting.
I picked up some scrubbie, scratchie type red yarn and I started a regular dishcloth with it. It’s going to be interesting to use. Looking forward to trying it.
I started reading Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain. I’m just barely into it. I’ve seen this title around the web here and there for a while and have wanted to read it.
I also started into The Life-Giving Home. I so enjoy books about home and creating a lovely place and cultivating beauty.
I’m still reading through Glory Days. I’m working on a chapter a day in it. It has been a very refreshing message to me.
I made some pom-poms last week too, but I neglected to take any pictures of them. You can find my pom-pom wreath in this post if you didn’t see it last week.
My son is reading The Hobbit for his reading in school right now. This was the first book he carried around with him, literally, until he had finished it. I mentioned his love of TinTin last week. He has never been a “devouring reader”. 🙂
But we had a copy of The Hobbit from the library and he read it eagerly. It was an old hardback with a green cover. Green has always been Tucker’s favorite color, ever since he was old enough to have a favorite color. For a long time after he read the book from the library he wished he could just have that particular copy. He liked the book and he liked the green cover.
For Christmas this year, he received his own green copy, although it isn’t an exact look-alike! 🙂
I’ve never read The Hobbit or any of J.R.R. Tolkien. My kids both like his books. I’m planning to read The Hobbit one of these days when Tucker finishes it. I do have a quote from The Hobbit about house and home that I absolutely love.
That house was a perfect house, whether you liked food or sleep or story-telling or singing (or reading), or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there was a cure for weariness…. J.R.R Tolkien
I want to make a sign with that quote or a poster or some such thing for my basement. I started a canvas with the quote, back before Christmas, but it isn’t quite coming out as I’d like. It’s been stuck on hold for now.
What are you reading this week?
Linking up with Ginny and Frontier Dreams.

Well if those aren’t the most perfect Valentine projects! I have really been enjoying the Hobbit films. The book is an absolute classic – how wonderful that Tucker has a special copy for himself (and his mama to borrow!)
Thank-you! And it is fun for him to have his own copy to treasure. I like beautiful books.
Oh I am going to have to try those heart shaped cloths! Quiet is on my to-read list. I seem to have a very long to-read list…
I have a very long to-read list as well! 🙂 But I don’t mind!
The hearts are very fun to make!
I need to read the book, Quiet. I’m sure I will like it and relate – having listened to the author a TED talk. I love seeing your sweet knitted items. Your pictures invite me right in to enjoy what you’re creating.
That’s sweet of you. Thanks!
I really enjoy reading about introverts, because I relate to so many of the characteristics. 🙂
How are the monthly chapters of the “Life Giving Home” set up? With tasks to do for that month? Or is it just what they enjoyed doing each month?
I haven’t read quite that far yet, but they are just reading chapters. No tasks. I think the theme of each chapter goes with the month. January is Rhythms, Routines, and Rituals and February is A Culture of Love. July is A Heroic Heritage.
I like to request books from my library. I don’t know if that’s an option for you, if you want to read it, but aren’t sure about buying it. 🙂
It is. I downloaded the preview from Amazon, but it stopped before an “official” chapter. 🙂
