Linking up with Ginny and Frontier Dreams.
The beginning of the fingerless mitts! I like how they are looking and this yarn is fun to work with.
My knitting has been patient a lot lately!
I’ve been working on some other projects and somehow our winter-now-turned-to-spring has contained lots to keep us hopping!
I’m learning about the area of gluten-free. It wasn’t ever anything I particularly was fascinated with or wanted to delve into.
But as it goes, life has a way of surprising you or tossing things in your lap or saying “Here, why don’t you learn about this?!”
We found out that my wheat farmer man has celiac disease. In simple and straight forward terms, he can’t eat gluten. He SHOULDN’T eat gluten. EVER.
The gluten is literally attacking his system.
We weren’t overly excited with this news, BUT it could be much worse and we are quite certain he will start feeling better than he has in a long time. Which totally makes it worth it.
So we’ve been reading labels and I’ve been searching recipes and trying out a few things and buying some new food items and just generally, learning.
We’ve also found out about quite a few people who don’t eat gluten or who have celiac. It was the same way when I was bothered with my sciatica and back stuff. People can relate. They either have had it or know someone who did or does.
And there are still a lot, a lot of good things he can eat! So double hooray for that!
I rode along with Matthew last week to a couple of farm auctions he was wanting to check out. As an aside, should you ever desire to see a parking lot packed with almost-all-pickups, I highly recommend you attend a farm auction. It always makes me chuckle to see the lineup of pickup after pickup!
One of the auctions was very close to this yummy Italian restaurant where Matthew took me three years ago for our anniversary. We decided to swing in there for lunch.
I looked over at him and said, “Want to know what love is?”
“It’s a gluten-free guy taking his wife to an Italian restaurant full of pasta and bread!” 🙂
I had to pick on him a little further then, because as I bit into the delicious soft and chewy bread, he rather enviously leveled his gaze at me.
I laughed and added, “However, he did rather glower at me over the bread instead of lovingly remarking, Honey, I’m so glad YOU can eat the bread!” 🙂 🙂
I really did feel sorry for him because it was very yummy bread and he would have loved it and there was no way I was going to eat it all.
Oh, snap.
Such is life.
And he did have and quite enjoy a very tasty, gluten-free pasta with mushrooms and shrimp and cheese sauce.
If you have a delicious gluten-free recipe, send it my way!!
My books are pretty much the same.
Fervent ~ still loving it so much.
Roots & Sky ~ It is soothing and relatable. Christie talks about the struggles and seasons and the looking and learning and the finding of lessons in life.
The Hobbit ~ J.R.R. Tolkien use of words and his imagination fascinate me. I love, love, love some of Bilbo’s thoughts and feelings.
We talked about The Lego Book last week. Here’s another of our big Lego books for this week. I think these books are so awesome for Lego lovers!
This is the Lego Minifigure book. You can find it on Amazon here.
A peek inside the pages.
It gives a history of the minifigures.
Isn’t that cool?
What have you been pulling off your bookshelves or find yourself puttering at?
Happiest of Wednesdays!
