I lean my head against the couch
and curl up my feet,
My Bible lays upon my lap,
With Jesus I shall meet.
A cozy blanket ’round me wrapped,
As I with Him retreat.
I lift the cover of His Word,
the pages rustle thin,
I turn to Proverbs, then to John,
Life-giving words within.
They wash my soul, ignite my heart,
And free me from my sin.
I bow my head and say a prayer,
Of gratitude and praise.
For all the gifts He’s given me,
The Numberer of my days.
For His direction and His Light.
For teaching me His ways.
I pull a Bible study out,
And I begin to read.
To learn yet more about my Lord,
And to His counsel heed.
To learn to cling to Him alone,
For He is all I need.
Aspiring to be more like Him.
My single greatest aim.
To steadfast stand and be secure,
Emblazoned with His name.
For yesterday, today, always!
My Jesus is the same.
I ponder words and thoughts and verse.
What does He speak to me?
Lessons of gold for me to mine.
Ne’re doubt their certainty.
His Words are life! His Words are light!
And speak eternity.
I feel His presence ’round me close.
Like blanket ’round me wrapped.
He guards my steps and guides my ways.
He frees me when I’m trapped.
He inspires thoughts and actions too.
My way for me, He’s mapped.
He listens when I seek Him out,
His ear is turned to hear.
All glory, honor, praise I give,
My every trembling fear,
Of dreams and hopes and cares and woes.
And all things I hold dear.
Oh, ever may I turn to Him,
Spend time in focused prayer.
To know His heart and bask in it,
As time with Him I share.
And cling to Him with all I am,
For He is always there.
