When we visited Matthew’s brother’s family a bit back, we took a daytrip and one of the things we did was visit the capitol building, or statehouse, as it is commonly referred to, in Topeka. We’d long talked of going and had mentioned it before to J&E, because they don’t live that far away from it.
When we told them we were coming out for the weekend, they asked us if we’d like to try to go to the statehouse and we promptly said, “Sure.”
It was very, very neat.
Capitol buildings are so elegant!
The detail is amazing. So elaborate.
Just thinking about the effort required and the planning and the time to build this building with the equipment available is amazing to me!
It is built with a dome inside the dome and you can take a guided tour clear to the very top and step outside for a bird’s eye view.
I went part way and then stayed behind and snapped pictures, “UP” while the rest of my family followed the tour guide on up.
Outside view from up, but not from the tip-top!
There they go!
Graffiti and names. This is one of the oldest etched dates that we noticed.
Coming back.
See the detail? Fascinated me!
Library inside the statehouse. It has two stories and the second story has a glass floor to help with the lighting.
Look at those hinges!
Intricate work underneath the stairs!
