Ushering in Autumn
My front door is happily open and the white screen door with the pretty bric-a-brac, stands more smartly at attention, proud to usher merry little breezes across the threshold. They pull and tug at the ribbon tails fluttering above the geometric golden wreath adorning the happily open door.
Distant barking echoes across the field and in the kitchen my Instant Pot ticks quietly. Chicken simmers inside and a maple candle flickers from its domain as an island centerpiece.
Shifting gears and familiar chug signals my farmer’s Peterbilt passing along the dirt road between cornfield and grain bin. The farmer’s daughter wore braids, and a grin stretching between them, as she headed from farmhouse to field in the early afternoon. I spy the truck through my screen, the one ushering in merry little breezes. I can’t see her, but I’m betting good money, the farmer’s daughter is shifting gears, still sporting grin and braids.
The Peterbilt rumbles into the distance and kittens pounce along the porch.
I need to go wrangle out ingredients to add to my tender chicken. I sit still though, savoring the sounds and scents and cadence of this season.
These are the styles and rhythms of fall and harvest and farm and home.
This is the beauty of today. The beauty of the lessons we find in the fields. We plant in hope. We anticipate a yield. We reap in gratefulness. We see and hear the still small whisper of God’s breath who spoke life into seeds and set life cycles into motion.

Sounds of the Season
What sounds, scents, and cadence of this season are especially meaningful to you?
I love the candles flickering and pumpkin everything and cozy hoodies and blankets. I love stories and books and movies and curling on the couch inside the open screen door. I breathe in the beauty of fall colors and blooms. Crisp apples with sea salt caramels and crunchy popcorn make perfect fall treats.
Cozy Up
Today, to celebrate the first day of autumn and as we anticipate cooler days and cozy evenings, I’m giving away three dvds. The first one has five movies on it from The Kendrick Brothers. We own, love, and appreciate all their films. The second one is Overcomer, the sixth Kendrick Brothers film released in 2019. The third DVD is I Can Only Imagine. This is another of our favorite movies. I’m delighted to share this fun pack with one of my blog comrades. Add them to your movie library or get a jump-start on Christmas gifts and use them to gift someone you love. 🙂

I’ve seen loved Overcomer when I saw it with a women’s group, and would love to watch it again with my family. I haven’t seen any of the others, but have heard wonderful things about them.

I haven’t watched these movies yet! I love brewing hot tea on cooler nights and snuggling under a blanket to read. If I watch movies, I prefer non-violent ones, hopeful ones, and ones that make me laugh.
deborah says
I agree with you in movie tastes. 🙂
Hot drinks + cozy blankets + books = perfect!

Honestly, I’m not crazy about fall scents. But I do like the scent of cinnamon and pumpkin pie baking. We enjoy watching Fall movies on Hallmark. I’ve seen all of these movies except for War Room and Overcomer.
deborah says
Cinnamon always seems so homey! War Room is one of my all-time favorite movies. 🙂
I hope your autumn is cozy and blessed.

I have watched most of the movies but not all. I am enjoying the leaves as they begin to turn and thinking about lighting a fall candle tomorrow (it’s summer today!)

I truly love all these movies. I was burning candles a week ago and then it warmed back up again! 🙂

I have seen these movies and really love them! I also love fall, and even though I’m not a big hot tea drinker, I do love sweet tea and lemonade. 🙂 Of course, delicious smelling candles are always nice to have in a room.
Thank you for offering this giveaway.
Love,
Ashley
