I continue to be impressed with the portrayal of Jesus in this series. I feel like they’ve done such a creative and beautiful job of capturing His compassion, His kindness, how He makes people feel seen.
He’s relatable. He has a gentle and funny humor that peeks through. We also catch the sense of the burden He bears and His hope and desire for his disciples to more fully understand the complete upside-down message He brings into the world, into their lives.
I watched an early screener for episodes 7 and 8.
Bring Kleenex.
That’s my first takeaway.
Episode 7 continues the story of Lazarus. Spoiler alert:He doesn’t stay dead. 😉
It was so gripping in this episode when they portrayed Jesus’ grief.
Jesus weeps.
Earnestly. Deeply. With wrenching heartbreak.
It was interesting to walk through the resurrection of Lazarus with Jesus, with Martha, {I always root for Martha. I think she gets a poor character assessment from the little we see of her in Scripture. Just my opinion.}with Mary, and with the townspeople of Bethany.
To consider what the reactions might have been, the emotions, and the incredulous amazement of this miracle.
Episode 8 continues along the storyline and life of Jesus as His disciples have more questions, the religious leaders are very agitated, and Pontious Pilate tries to navigate his role and his city.
Joanna shows up again in this episode. I find it fascinating to put flesh and blood to these people of the New Testament and consider what life might have felt like for them. The conflict and conflicting beliefs they faced. The questions. The challenges. The misunderstandings. The mishaps. The fear. The strength required.
Simon Z and Matthew head out to bring the colt of the donkey to Jesus. I’d never thought about what this actual event could have looked like and how it might have felt to go looking for a donkey’s colt that had not been ridden before. I re-read the account in Matthew 21 and realized I’d not noticed or remembered the colt comes from the village of Bethphage. I’m nerdy enough to love to learn and/or realize/notice these types of small details.
Episode 8 concludes with Jesus readying to ride the colt into Jerusalem and the people in Jerusalem readying palm branches and gathering to receive Him into the city.
I believe there is one more episode and then number 9 will conclude the season and leave us all waiting for Season 5 to arrive.
The hours and work and research required to bring a story to screen is another whole facet that interests and amazes me.

A great, big thank you to Come and See Foundation, Inc. for providing an early screener
for this review. All opinions are completely my own.
Jesus sounds authentic at least as far as a human can portray Him. This sounds amazing!
