I really love devotionals and I think they make lovely gifts.
I love them for busy days when you may not have much time to read, but you can still snag a few minutes to read a page or two.
I appreciate the ability to read partway through, lay the book aside for a while, and easily pick it up and start in again.
Yet, they also offer much to ponder on when reading them during a slower season of life, pausing to think and pray or journal.
Often, each day can stand on its own or the days build on each other if you read it all through. In summary I love the diversity and flexibility a devotional offers to our reading time and study time.
Perhaps right now, during these days of physical distancing, a new devotional would serve you well. Here’s a few from my shelves for your consideration! If you have further questions about any of them, I’ll gladly try to answer them!

Seeking to slow down, to savor, to sit still?
Savor is a devotional I love. For starters, I love the cover. Sound crazy? Maybe! But I love the stripes, the colors, the font, yes, the font, 🙂 and I love the feel. It has a linen-like texture to it. Another fun thing about this devotional is the inclusion of recipes. Shauna Niequist is a foodie and self-taught cook. It’s a fun extra to find the recipe pages scattered throughout.
It’s written in conversational me-too style and I found it easy to resonate with.

This devotional is the one. Jesus Calling. This book found me a few years ago at the perfect time. I needed this encouragement and practice of sitting with God and pouring out my every need in prayer. I love this deluxe edition. I like the leather-like cover and it contains the verses of Scripture on each page instead of only the references.

Seeking a devotional to work through with your teen daughter or gift to your teen daughter?
This one. All in All by Sophie Hudson is a journaling devotional with great conversations and stories. Sophie Hudson has worked with teenage girls for twenty-ish years. She’s kind and funny and relatable and loveable. And her book is too, of course. Sophie is a fantastic storyteller with a perchance for the funny side of life.
I think this book is terrific for teens, but guess what? You don’t have to be a teenager to enjoy it. I totally had it pre-ordered for myself when I heard it was in the works.
It contains 100 Days. Each day is numbered. The text begins each day followed by a Scripture reference to look up and read. Then there are three questions with space to journal your answers. Next a Bible verse to look up and write out. Finally, each day finishes with space to write out a prayer.

100 Days of Bible Promises
This one holds a short devotional, Bible verse and space to draw, handletter, or journal on each two-fold spread. The text in this one is short. It’s surrounded with several Bible verses written out. A short prayer is printed at the bottom of the right hand pages.
It’s pretty open ended. No questions. Just space to draw or journal your thoughts or prayers.
