I’ve been crushing on this children’s book ever since it arrived in my mailbox as a review from B&H/Lifeway.
It has a multitude of delightful details. There’s truly oodles of things to love about the components of this picture book.
Thinking about them makes me happy. Typing this out to share with you makes me happy. Turning the pages in Gracie’s Garden makes me happy.

The gold foil letters for the title are ooo-la-la! Give me a good gold foil any day of the week. {Even though it makes it a bit hard to photograph the book cover.} π

The book is based on the author, Lara Casey’s real life, real children, and real garden. She uses her children as the book’s characters. So fun!
{Find all Lara Casey’s terrific products over here if you aren’t familiar with her site.}
{I have a post here sharing one of the Write the Word journals.}

Gracie’s Garden has fun details and a heap of humor in the illustrations and words. It incorporates puns, play on words, and mispronunciations to lend laughter and real life with littles.
Can you see on the little garden signs two of them read, “Come in for Peas and Quiet” and “FREE WEEDS!” π

Nutty the Squirrel makes a fun addition as a character in the book. The children share some peaches with him, along with a little conversation about seeds and how God made them to grow into different fruits and vegetables.
This page spread absolutely delights me!

The story is full of charm and imagination and ideas. It’s about God’s creation and dirt and growing things and giving thanks for His goodness and provision. It’s about veggie snacks and tomatoes and the miracles inside a seed. It’s about patient waiting and watching and playing together.

The book jacket! I love what the designers and creators did with this. They filled the inside of the book jacket with garden illustrations and puns. Adorable!
I’ve tried to keep a small list of some of my favorite books in 2020, so I can compile a blog post of them towards the end of the year or the beginning of next year. While mostly the list is chapter books for adults, I added Gracie’s Garden to my list. It’s so precious! Makes me think a bit of the Fancy Nancy books….which I absolutely adore. π
I’d love to hear some of your favorite picture book titles!
