It may be Poor Man’s Steak, but it sure is yummy.
We were at a carry-in dinner a few weeks ago and Poor Man’s Steak was one of the things that ended up on my husband’s plate as we went through line. He has been hungry for more ever since, so I fixed it. I hadn’t made it for quite a while. I enjoyed fixing it and it was yummy!
Here is the recipe if you decide you are hungry for Poor Man’s Steak!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup soda cracker crumbs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- minced onion
- 1 can golden mushroom soup
Instructions
Combine all ingredients, except mushroom soup. Press into a jellyroll pan. Refrigerate overnight. Cut into squares. Flour both sides and brown in skillet. Place in 9x13 baking dish. Top with 1 can golden mushroom soup mixed with 1/2 to 1 can of milk or water or simply top with undiluted soup.
Bake 1 1/2 hours at 325 degrees.
Serve and enjoy!

That’s all there is to it! Easy-Peasy! It just takes a little planning ahead!
And now I’m hungry for poor man’s steak! Think I have all the ingredients and yes, it is so easy! P.S. Fun to see your kitchen again. Seems like a long time since we’ve sat down there to one of your yummy meals.
This is just too funny: I was thinking last week that I needed to make and blog Poor Man’s Steak. It’s been too long since I’ve had it. Mom always fixed it for Sunday Dinner and served it with grits. 😀
I hadn’t made it for a long time. It was yummy! I will be watching for your blogpost!
isn’t this a square hamburger??

Pretty much! 🙂 Just doctored up a little!
Looks yummy! Pinned to my Saturday Dishes board ~ Paula
