I’ve been reading Laddie by Gene Stratton Porter.
I read Girl of the Limberlost and Freckles and the Harvester years ago. I reread Girl of the Limberlost not so long, long ago.
I have never read Laddie, though. AΒ friend mentioned her love of it to me. I was instantly intrigued since I loved Gene Stratton Porter’s other books. This one is just as good and definitely her style of writing.
Isn’t my green wheat sheaf pretty? Plus, I was pleased because it sort of goes with Gene Stratton Porter’s book because she loved the outdoors and nature of all kinds. Her books contain a wealth of knowledge about birds and woods and plants and butterflies.
I honestly haven’t sat down and knitted for any length of time for a good bit, but I add a row here and there!! That means PROGRESS. May be slow, but still progress!
On a very UP note, I have felt better the last month and plain and simple, I am able to be up and around more and dig into some projects. I don’t find myself wanting or needing to sit as much. So that also means not as much knitting, I think!!
On Monday, I noticed online that it was National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. Well, obviously there was nothing to do but stir up a batch of these chocolate chip cookie cupcakes. OBVIOUSLY. So I did.

Have you watched the movie Hidden Figures? Matthew and I watched it over the weekend and it is very, very good. The movie is well done and the story is fascinating.
You know something I love about social media? I like how my feed gets filled with good wishes and thoughts and memories and gratitude at holidays. Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s, Mother’s Day……….. I love seeing everyone celebrate thankfulness for the season.
I didn’t see them all, but I enjoyed the Mother’s Day posts I did see when I scrolled through FB and Instagram a couple of times on Sunday.
These pretty blooms have been making me happy!
What projects are you embracing for springtime and summer?
We planted some potatoes and corn. The potatoes had popped up and the corn is too. I love, love watching the baby plants show up. How DO those seeds know what to do???? π
I have a few pumpkins planted and I ordered some seed to try a couple of other varieties.
We had a few giant sunflower seeds left and I stuck them along one edge of the garden. They’re popping up, but if the bunnies don’t eat them off, I’ll be surprised!
My SSMT second verse for May ~
1 Peter 5:10
And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
