My quote for the week ~
I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn’t change God. It changes me. ~ C.S. Lewis
Mmmm. Good words to let sink in.
And I’m delighted to share this book with you this week! I received it from over here at Bible Belles. I admit I was excited to get a book about the Bible woman with my name. 🙂
Deborah: The Belle of Leadership
This series reminds me a little bit of the Imagination Station books and Adventures in Odyssey.
It’s a Bible story within a story.
Stories like this always fascinate me. We read A Hive of Busy Bees when my children were little and that book is the same way. It was about Don and Joyce, who were staying at their grandparents. Every evening, Grandma would tell them a story featuring a Bee. Bee Kind. Bee Gentle. Be Compassionate and so on and so forth. It was so fun to have a story within a story.
That’s a little how the Bible Belles are.
The books are about the adventures of Rooney Cruz and in each story she learns a lesson about character from faithful women in the Bible.
She has a little angel friend named Mari who takes her to look through a wide, wooden window to view the Bible story.
In Deborah: The Belle of Leadership, Rooney visits the story of Deborah the judge and Barak the leader of the army.
Oh, and this story has a bee in it too! Because the name Deborah means “bee”. 🙂
Rooney has a golden bracelet with golden bell charms on it. She collects one for each Belle of the Bible and they each have the first letter of the Bible Belle’s name etched on them.
In this final book, she adds a “D” to her collection and spells out the word HEARD.
Mari tells Rooney, “The world is loud and it has a lot to say about the kind of girl you should be. But God made you strong and He created you to battle back against the noise of the world.”
I appreciate the message in this book as it teaches young girls to seek God, to seek out the faithful attributes in the Bible and grow them in their own lives from early on.
Here’s some fun details………….

Oh, and fun fact…….the author’s daughter’s name is Rooney! How fun is that!
My friend, Denise J. Hughes sent me this journal. It’s a really neat idea and makes a super fun keepsake.
It’s titled 6 Stories Every Mom Should Tell.
It offers space to write and record the details for each of these memories…….
~ their birth
~ how you picked their name
~ a memorable moment that reflects their strengths
~ how you met Jesus
~ how you met their dad
~ your dreams
If you’re a journaler, this is a great way to record these moments for your children!
I’ve been working on a handlettering project for my basement gathering room. I haven’t decided yet if I think it’s turning out or if it may be more of a so-close-to-amazing type of project. It’s a list of things I’d like to have our home filled with. They are aspirations and sometimes I read over the list I jotted and it feels very idealistic. YET, all of the things on it are very real desires and I do not make progress without vision, hopes and dreams. And, of course, a whole lot of work. Few, few things happen by accident. So, even though more often than not, I fall short of my ideals and aspirations, I’m glad for the reminders of what I want to aim for.
I listened to a really good podcast recently on my Focus Daily App. Measuring Your Words With Others with Emerson Eggerichs. This dovetailed well with Conversation Peace, the Bible study I’ve been currently working on. You can find the podcast right here. The Conversation Peace study has certainly had me doing a lot of thinking as well. I want my speech to be kind and filled with grace and seasoned with good salt, but it glaringly lacks much, much more often than I wish it did. I’ve known for years that I’m not all-that-great-of-a-listener and I’ve been reaffirming it in different areas and pages of this study. Speech and communication and words are tricky things. Any conversation has a lot of factors going on. Even when it’s only between two people. You’ve got differences in personalities and interpretations and sensitivities to name a very few.
In other news, I’m very thrilled with a tip a friend shared with me. I’ve been working bit by bit on organization through my house and I was asking a friend for a few ideas. She showed me this awesome idea! It has been for me anyway! She uses binder clips on the edges of scrapbook paper pads to keep them together. This opened all kinds of doors and ideas for me!!! Haha! I had some really cute binder clips in a few different sizes. For years, I’ve had an over-the-door shoe organizer with pockets and I’ve kept all kinds of paper-y and gift packaging things in it. Gift tags, small tulle bags, small cards and a mish-mash of things. It was in wild disarray, having had these items pulled out and poked hurriedly back in time and again. I started sorting through the pockets and it STRUCK me that using binder clips to keep tags with tags and cards with cards was a perfect solution! Then each little bundle could slip into a pocket, but not get all mixed together. I’m so pleased!!! Plus, dumb as this sounds, I’d really liked my little binder clips and was so happy to have such a useful-y use for them!! 🙂
Renae graduates this spring! Unbelievable!! We’re working on ideas and prep for a graduation celebration for her and looking forward to it and getting excited about it! {It may be a little quiet around my blog during April. We’ll see. Graduation prep is priority and high school graduation only happens once!! 🙂 }
SOOOOOO……..I’m still reading, but I’ve been busy too, and I haven’t been taking pictures of my books or posting them in pages and projects every week.
The above books are four books I’ve recently read or am currently reading. They are interesting and I really, really enjoyed The Creative Habit.
If you have a minute, tell me what you’ve been reading and what plans and projects you have this spring! Happy day!
