It’s Pie crust day! Or post pie-crust-recipe-day anyway! One big reason to add this is because I have a three-ring binder that contains all the recipes I’ve posted on my blog. I print them out and stick them in it. They are my well-used, often-used, go-to, loved, favorite or family recipes. My pie crust recipe isn’t in it and I want it to be. Good motivation to post it.
I’ve loved how this binder has emerged over time.
I like to make pies, unless I’m rushed. They do take a bit of time and don’t go a long ways for feeding a crowd. They are pretty and feel like an accomplishment to me, though.
This was my Mother’s pie crust recipe and is oh-so-my-favorite!
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 cup lard
- 1 egg
- 5 T. water
- 1 tsp. vinegar
Instructions
Blend the first three ingredients together until crumbly.
In a separate bowl, beat the egg. Stir in water and vinegar.
Add liquid mixture to crumb mixture.
Let pie dough rest for 10 minutes.
Roll out dough and make pies!
If baking just a pie shell, bake until slightly brown approx. 12-15 minutes.
https://adelightfulglow.com/my-pie-crust/A bit of dough left over! My daughter likes to eat it plain.
She and my husband and son all like butterhorn dough plain and they like cookie dough! I like Monster Cookie Dough plain. I could eat way too much of it. But, then, peanut butter, m&m’s and oatmeal. Nuff said.
Sometimes if there’s enough of a bit of pie dough left, but not enough for a pie, we roll it out, spread it with butter and cinnamon sugar and roll it up and bake for a treat. Also learned from my Mother!

Ready to go in the freezer! I so like having pie crusts in the freezer. I can usually get four pie shells out of one recipe and stick the extras in the freezer for later. This makes putting a pie together especially speedy the next time I bake!
