The Hatteras Light!
I’ve climbed it twice.
Eighteen years ago with my brand-new husband.
This year, with my husband-of-eighteen-years and my two half-grown children and my sister and her husband and my three, getting-too-big-and-grown-up, nieces.
Eighteen years ago, it was free to climb it and there was a volunteer at the top to talk about it and answer questions. Now, there is admission fee and park ranger people. One ranger at the bottom to greet you and give a few instructions. One ranger half-way up and one at the top of the light.
Time always brings changes. The lighthouse has been moved since we were there the first time. They moved it two years after we were there. I remember reading a few news articles about it getting moved.
They had the old location marked and you could see how close it was to the ocean. It now stands as far from the shore as it did originally. That was interesting and showed how much the shore had worn away.
The Hatteras light is so striking. Fun to visit! Fun to take pictures!
