I love getting ideas from other people. In large part, because I am, only on the very rare occasion, inspired with a totally original idea.
On Friday, I posted this question on A Delightful Glow’s facebook page:
Any recommendations for a spoon rest? I’d like one that a wooden spoon easily lays on. My spoon rest is small and my wooden spoon usually falls off onto the counter totally defeating the purpose….
I had some great and inspiring replies!!!!!!!!
Here’s what Lisa from Life is Crazy Beautiful said:
I use a dessert plate. True story.
I was totally struck with the idea. WONDERFUL IDEA!!! Flat and round and easy. Then I remembered the small glass dessert plate I had recently purchased because it was on clearance and it matched the clear glass plates I included in yesterday’s post.
Woo-hoo! Perfect!
Someone else mentioned Pampered Chef’s spoon rest. I really like my Pampered Chef products, but I’ve never checked out their spoon rest. After looking at a picture of it, I’m pretty sure my mother-in-law has one. I just didn’t realize it was a Pampered Chef product. My cousin is a Pampered Chef consultant!
Another grand idea mentioned was a coffeecup!
Daniela from Frugal Ain’t Cheap had this great idea:
I use an empty small can. hand wash and let it air dry each night. Goes well with my “industrial” look. 🙂
The idea goes quite well with the theme of her blog too!
Right now I’m really loving the plate idea and the look of it in my kitchen!
I like the other spoon rest too; it just isn’t big enough.
So, the whole talk about spoon rests made me think about my toothpick holder.
When we were first married, I needed a toothpick holder and didn’t have one. My mother-in-law gifted me with one. In reality, it was meant to be a votive candleholder, but it worked wonderfully! That’s what I’ve used ever since. We’ve had two get broken, so my current toothpick holder is my third votive-turned-toothpick holder.
Another grand idea, plus I’m always all for something being practical and pretty!
So share some more ideas with me of how you use things for other purposes! ‘Cause I’m all about being inspired by other people’s ideas!

🙂 I liked the idea of the dessert plate spoon rest too. And that Daniela always has great thrifty ideas! Love her blog!
I’m plum out of any fresh ideas right now – my brain is all used up at the moment!
🙂 I understand the brain thing! Mine has trouble with ideas when it’s not tired out. lol!
Here’s one I did recently. I put peanut butter cups in a small sugar bowl that I bought at the auction. Sugar bowls should hold sugar, shouldn’t they?! Love the bowl and really like peanut butter cups. So it worked for me. Think I’ll make a habit of having sweets in that bowl that reminds me of my Mother.
That’s a great idea! I think I’ll be over! 🙂 I also like little traditions such as keeping candy in that special bowl.
And as always, thankful for memories!
I’m inspired! Thanks for stopping by the Mom’s Monday Mingle. Following you here and everywhere!
Thank-you for stopping by here and for the follows! 🙂
