Do you have a guest book in your home?
We were given one as a wedding gift and I have loved having it and using it. I don’t always remember to get it out for people to sign. Sometimes if a gathering is fairly casual or impromptu, I don’t pull it out. But I love the record that it creates and I wouldn’t care if every single guest in our home was recorded in it, whether they were here for a few minutes or for several hours. I think my neighbor might look at me kind of strangely if I whipped out the guest book when she stopped by to borrow something though.
I so enjoy flipping back through it and remembering the people who have been in our home. Now don’t get the idea that we’re super hosts or that we have company all the time. We don’t. Many of the signatures are the same throughout the book. Family and friends who make life special. I’m embarrassed to admit that there are signatures not in our guest book that should be there. {As in we need to be better at hosting.} I have used it as a history book too, and looked up dates we were trying to remember.
I remember thinking it was so fun to sign my name in a guest book when I was a child. My children now think it’s cool too. They love to sign their names in Grandma’s guest book and they’ve even written their names in my guest book. I like having children sign it, if I remember.
When I started using my guest book back in 1997, I enjoyed it, but I didn’t realize then what a neat record of memories it would become. If you’ve ever thought about starting a guest book, I would give you my recommendation! I remember visiting my aunt and uncle here in Kansas when I was growing up and signing her guest book. Her signature, in my guest book, is just peeking out in the photo above. I *think* she is still using the same book. It is quite a bit bigger in size than mine and has a green cover and it is firmly etched in my memory. When thinking about guest books, hers always stands out to me. We spent a good bit of time in their home when we were first married and my signatures are scattered throughout it. Lots of good times! It is special to me too, because there have been a lot of changes over the years and we will never go back and live the memories and times of what were. Change isn’t bad, but it can be sad. Her guest book really is a history book compared to mine! it is definitely a treasure.

Glad you’ve kept up on your guest book better than I have. I gave up years ago but do enjoy looking at the names that are there from years ago.
We were given not one, not two, but FIVE guest books for our wedding. I’ve not used a single one – I tried but I always forgot to have people sign. So I gave up. I’m just not good at that kind of thing I guess!
I know we were given at least one more and maybe two more. I’m kind of foggy on that. It didn’t matter, because in our 15 1/2 years we haven’t even filled one completely yet. 🙂
