Several years ago, I was with my sister at a Sears store, having photographs of our kiddos taken. When I stop and think about it, it’s been more years ago than I really want to realize. Where did my babies go????
We chatted with another mother for a little and she gave me a wonderful idea. I’m really not sure how it came up. I think it was around Christmastime and we must have mentioned Christmas cards. She told us she had switched to sending Easter cards. That’s when the light bulb went on for me.
My kiddos birthdays happen to fall in January. When they were younger, I liked to try to get their photos taken relatively close to their birthdays. December is always a busy month and we often travel and fitting in photographs and having them ready to go into Christmas cards was more stressful than it was fun.
These were the days before awesome digital cameras and uploading photos to Mpix and having them printed and in my mailbox in a few days. This was long, long ago.
I liked to send pictures to friends and family and in these long ago days there was no facebook or blog either. Sending out Christmas cards in December and then turning around in a month and having pictures that I wanted to send to many of the same people made no sense whatsoever, in time or money.
So, my light bulb moment. EASTER CARDS!!!!! Perfect fit for me. I didn’t have to think about it in December. I could get my kid’s pictures done and mail them out in Easter cards.
That is what we’ve done ever since. And I love it!
Now, I order photo cards and we’re good to go. Photo cards weren’t nearly as easy then. I could probably switch back to Christmas, with all the technology at our fingertips and all the simple uploading and ordering. But, I’ve done Easter cards for quite a few years and I like doing it this way.
I still like to stay in touch and we have friends and family that don’t use facebook and really don’t care that much what a blog is. Sending Easter cards is more relaxing for me compared to Christmas. And I enjoy focusing a little bit extra on Easter.
My printer did not want to co-operate with me when I wanted it to print my envelopes. So, I just addressed my Easter cards myself and ignored the printer {after wasting too much time trying to get it to work}. It did print out return address labels for me. {You’re too kind, Mr. HP Printer.}
I took them along to the post office yesterday, when I went to mail the Spring Fling Giveaway winner, her package. So, off they go to send our Easter greetings!
A couple of other quick mentions~You can hop over to The Life of Faith and read my guest post featuring Easter decor and a few more words about my Easter cards idea.

What a great idea! I always do Christmas cards but it always seems more like a chore than something I enjoy doing. I should probably consider a switch!
Can’t wait to get the card in my mailbox! Love the photos – the green grass is something I’m coveting right now. I’m assuming that is a wheat field – I have several different pots of wheat grass planted right now – wheat from the Kansas heartland! And that stuff is growing its heart out 🙂 Loving seeing it grow so tall so quickly.

What a terrific idea. I’ve had several friends who send New Years cards/pictures and I always thought about doing Valentines Day pictures but Easter is even better!
