My washing machine decided to take a break this week and when it comes to washing machines that quite literally means, BREAK.
An intake valve for the cold water is done and done. Or something like that. I know nothing about the workings of machines, except I expect them to work when I want them too.
My farmermanhusbandturnedappliancerepairman gave me the diagnosis and put the part in the cart for me to order on eBay. It’s on its way to our door, but in the meantime the laundry piles in miniature mountain style.
I suppose after twenty and one-half years, that Amana washing machine deserves a bit of a break. It’s had very few, and it’s dealt with a LOT of dirt and grime. However, I find myself wagging my finger in its direction and explaining there could have been more convenient weeks to take a break and it was a little bit rude of it not to ask. Our week was already sufficiently filled full, to our way of thinking, without any unwanted extras, thank you very much.
And there’s the thing.
We knew this week was leaning towards a bit busy. But it was doable.
And then…..other things happen and I begin to cross off to-dos that seemed important, but really can wait in light of more important.
I do the next thing.
And then the next thing.
I find myself propelled back to Proverbs where I spent some study time this summer.
Chapter 16, verse 9. ~ We can make our own plans, but the Lord determines our steps. Praise His name!
Planning is part of life. Willingness to let my steps be directed by Him is too!
He is my life. Jesus multiplies time and He magnifies memories and He shows me that moments matter.
In a total aside, should you pass by me in the produce aisle at the grocery store and think I’m multiplying the moments or counting oranges or checking broccoli for freshness, well, I’m not.
I’M SIMPLY TRYING TO OPEN THOSE THIN PLASTIC PRODUCE BAGS.
They are my bane.
Other shoppers, gathering groceries for hungry humans, open them in effortless and graceful motion, with a flick of their wrist. Not me. I shake them.
I twist. I rub. I concentrate. I say a prayer of desperation, determined not to stay stuck in produce forever, ALL BECAUSE OF A PLASTIC BAG.
Besides other people want oranges and broccoli too and I AM IN THE WAY.
Finally, when I’m trying to decide how badly I want produce this week or if I should plead for help from some kind soul or perhaps throw my head back with a howl of frustrated anguish, the slippery thin bag slides open, saving my sanity and allowing access for my oranges.
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

We’ve been using Thieves. It’s my favorite for this time of year. It really seems to help fight against colds and kills germs. I really like the smell of Thieves. I can’t say that about all of my oils! Ha! Some of them are downright stinky smelling in my opinion! If you’re an essential oil user and lover, tell me a favorite you’ve been currently using.

I’m enjoying my Christmas decor and my cozy basement. I’m grateful for our basement always, but I think I especially love it on the long, chilly winter evenings. I’m also really glad that I began putting up my Christmas decor early this year. I find I can slip in a bit of time here and there to work on it and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it this year. I haven’t pulled out everything I’d really like to, but I’m ok with that, too. Life is so like that. I never, never feel like I get to do all the ideas and fun things I really want to because of the urgent and the have-tos and the food and laundry and, of course, things like PRODUCE BAGS.
May your weekend hold many moments that matter, produce bags that open, and steps directed by Christ our King!
And if you have any handy housewife hints on washing machines or pesky produce bags, please pass them on to me!
