Since we had wind and snow the last couple of days and we were blanketed in with fifteen inches of snow, I made some snacks yesterday. And I enjoyed a relaxed, cozy day looking out the window at the snow and being very thankful I could stay inside my warm house. And I was thankful for moisture presenting itself to our dry plains.
My kiddos and my man ventured out some.
Renae and Tucker had a great time exploring, digging snow forts, and jumping into drifts. Cooper explored too, but his little owners soon tucked him into the garage with his heat lamp.
Matthew got to be the one to walk/wade across the field to the farm and check and feed his brother’s cows. Then he brought the tractor back and drove up and down the lane so there would be a track and so his pick-up could actually get out of the lane. We’re thankful not to have a lot of livestock when this kind of weather shows itself.
I had Chex cereal on my pantry shelf, so I made sweet and salty snacks with it. I made Crockpot Party Mix and I made Puppy Chow or Muddy Buddies. Whichever name you prefer.
I’m sharing the Crockpot Party Mix recipe with you today. It is simple and easy. I like to use Cheerios in my party mix and when I “bake” it in the crockpot, they don’t shrink up like I’ve had them do in the microwave or oven.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 5 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/4 tsp. seasoned salt
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 9 cups of cereal-Chex, Cheerios,
- Pretzels
- Peanuts-optional
Instructions
Spray 6 quart crockpot with cooking spray.
Melt butter. Mix in Worcestershire and seasonings.
Pour half of sauce in the bottom of crockpot. Add cereal, pretzels, and nuts. Pour the rest of the sauce on top and stir well.
Cook uncovered on high for 1 hour, stirring every 30 minutes.
Reduce heat to low and cook 30 minutes more.
Pour onto baking sheet to cool.
Eat and enjoy!
Store in airtight container.
Triple everything except butter. Use 1 cup butter.
Cook uncovered.
Start at 225 degrees for 1 hour. Stir every 10-15 minutes.
Decrease to 200 degrees for 30 minutes. Continue to stir.
Pour out on baking sheets to cool.
Notes
It is really yummy to add Peanut M&M's to this after it is cooled. Funny thing, though. The M&M's seem to disappear more quickly than the party mix. Hmmm..
Something salty, something sweet, Yummy snacks and tasty treats!
What is your favorite way to spend a snow day?
Inside or outside?!

Definitely inside! It could be knitting, reading, sewing, sipping hot chocolate, looking out at the drifts of snow, even napping. Love the TLC Cooper is getting! Your snacks looks so good.
I used to like to venture out in the snow, but now I much prefer just gazing out.
thanks so much for sharing this recipe!! I’d never thought of using the crock pot, so this technique may come in handy with at least one other recipe for snack mix we use. Hope you all stay safe with this snow you had….We are enjoying the south, with NO SNOW. In fact, this area is in the midst of a drought, having had less then an inch of rain since the first of the year, when the newspaper says the normal average would be 5+ inches. The moisture from 17″ of snow would be welcome here….but not the cold!! Blessings on your weekend!
The warm and sunny south sounds very nice! 🙂
I would think the crockpot method would work for any kind of mix that you are supposed to bake.
We definitely need the moisture here, too.
Inside. Definitely. Or better yet – in Hawaii. 😀
So glad you got some moisture though and that your kiddos have fun playing in the snow. i can just see them playing with and caring for adorable little Cooper!
I’m ALL for the Hawaii idea!
Outside definitely. Our midwest ‘week before Easter’ snow was absolutely beautiful – an 8-10″ blanket that touched everything, outlining every fence post, twig, looking like heavy frosting just dripping on the evergreens. Too beautiful to stay inside – or at least just long enough to make hot chocolate for the kids (shoveling) and head back out!
Snow does make everything so breathtaking beautiful!
How clever! I’d would never have thought to make this in a crockpot! Thanks so much for linking up on the Crockpot link party & giveaway with us! I’m pining this to my crockpot board.
Happy Monday!

I really like making it in the crockpot.
Thanks for the link-up and giveaway! I’d be thrilled to win. {of course!}
Thanks for joining us at Saturday Dishes ~ Paula
How cool! I had never considered making party mix in the slow cooker, but it makes sense that the slow gentle heat doesn’t dry it and shrink it. Thanks for linking to Saturday Dishes. I hope you’ll return this week when we feature Mother’s Day dishes. -Savannah PS – Pinned this!
It’s really amazing all the ways you can use a crockpot and the things people make in them. Last summer I tried out the idea for baking bread in a crockpot.
