Meet O’Malley!
We named her and then decided she is a girl. O’Malley seems more like a boyish name, I think, but oh well!
About a month ago, O’Malley showed up at our aunt’s house. Our aunt posted a photo of the kitten on fb asking if anyone wanted to give her a home. I was sure my kids would jump at the chance because we have not had many kittens this year.
We had one litter of seven, this spring, but the first-time mama didn’t take care of them and none of them survived. We were gone when they were born, so no one was here to try to get the mama to care for them.
O’Malley has settled right in and is much loved. She is very adorable! And she puts Cooper in his place. We are glad and hope she keeps it up. He likes to chase the cats a little to well.
Too many of them just put up with it, instead of clawing his nose. It can look like he’s being rather hard on them. It is frustrating because if the cats would stand up to him, he’d soon learn to leave them alone!
The week before we adopted O’Malley we had another litter of five kittens arrive. Their mama is also a first time mama, but she has done a terrific job of caring for them and has hardly left them on their own.
They are getting so cute.
My daughter likes to wait till they get a little bigger to name them. To make sure they survive and to see their personalities emerge. She likes to try out names and see what fits.
{Perhaps I can update with names sometime.}

My kiddos, also, usually choose which kittens belong to each of them and then they each name their own kittens. It makes me laugh, but I well remember my brother and I each having “our” kittens. I’ve also noticed that it seems to be a way of life with kiddos and kittens. We have friends who have kittens and their children have their own particular kittens. They told me the kittens’ names and which kitten belonged to which kid.They have two kiddos that share one kitten because they happen to have one more kiddo than kitten this summer. 🙂
When my kiddos are discussing, I want to say “Why don’t you just share all the kittens?” but then I remember having “my” kittens and it really was kind of a big deal!
What about you? Did you have kittens that belonged especially to you?

My girls do the same thing – they name them all and they each claim one as ‘theirs’.
I know~I think it is a pretty universal thing. It’s just one of those details that as an “old” grown-up, I hadn’t stopped to remember.
