My sister-in-law recently had a birthday and we had a small celebration to celebrate her! 🙂 I’ve always enjoyed tea parties and setting a pretty table and fixing up little things for lunches and celebrations.
One of the first parties I remember having was a Valentine Party when I was a young girl. Several of my friends from school came home with me and spent the night. I remember decorating the basement and putting up streamers at the doorway and fixing everything up!

My sister and I had several girl parties for our friends as we grew up. We enjoyed setting up the tables, decorating and making fun food. Styles have changed a lot over the years, but we both still love pulling out dishes and decor.
One of the ladies I used to work for when I was a teen, had a surprise tea party for me when I turned sixteen. She started my teacup collection and was good inspiration for pretty tables and setting things up in your own style and way. She liked homemaking and tea parties very much, too.
Another gift she gave me, over my years of helping her, was the book, The Spirit of Loveliness by Emilie Barnes. It is full of simple, pretty, homey ideas. I still love the book! Thinking about it makes me want to pull it off the bookshelf and browse through the pages. It’s been a while!
But then, I love books and I’ve long loved the idea of a library, like in the English homes and castles!
An old-fashioned candy counter and a library! The idea and beauty of both is just fun. 🙂
{And of course, tea parties.}
I love parties, too. Setting a pretty table is so fun. You do a great job. I have good memories of the parties you’ve done for me.
The hydrangeas are so pretty. My bush chose to not bloom this year and I miss them!
Huh~wonder why your hydrangea didn’t want to bloom? I’d like to try planting some around here somewhere and sometime.
And we have had lots of fun parties over the years. {Always good if chocolate cake is involved!} 😉
I like having parties too! Sometimes my boys will shoo everyone out of the dining room and set a “special table”…sometimes it looks like something out of Dr. Seuss but it warms my heart that they try. I remember setting a table out on the front porch for my family one time with our camping table and I made blueberry pancakes with blueberry syrup. I didn’t find out until much later that neither of my parents really liked blueberries. 🙂 They ate politely and didn’t say a word.
And Dr. Seuss is so much fun!! And I love how you’ve talked different times about the way your boys appreciate making things special.
I keep thinking it would be fun to do something on our porch, but nothing yet! Plus, it would have to be a day with no wind. 🙂
Aren’t good parents such a blessing?!
I love parties, especially the details! Those individual cakes are yummy looking. And the gift bag is adorable! 🙂

I love parties too! {Obviously~I think I’ve already said that!} And it’s fun how you can add anything from a few simple touches to very detailed to make something extra-special.
Oh i love your table! Fresh flowers, fresh fruit, and stripey straws – can’t beat that!!!

I agree! Flowers and fruit are so pretty. It’s so fun to set a pretty table. And I love the pretty paper things from straws to napkins to cupcake liners.
