The creative possibilities are endless on a beach full of sand and shells and an ocean providing an endless water supply for sand that needs dampened slightly to form and mold.
On Friday evening the girls sculpted and crafted and became mermaids for a time.
It was a gorgeous evening. We’d ventured to the beach so my sister could snap some pictures of my family for me.
It was still and seventy and the sun was gorgeous, glinting on the water and letting its rays linger, leaving the most lovely lighting.
We walked along the water’s edge and the waves were warm as they lapped and foamed at our feet. We could not have asked for a better evening.
One of those moments that are so close to perfection, this side of heaven.
Nor could you have asked for prettier mermaids. We loved their Mermaids in the Sand.
My niece would make such a good advertisement for Hatteras with her Hatteras t-shirt and mermaid tail. The pictures certainly say, “Come to Hatteras! Come to the beach! Come and play!”
And as the sun sank and the daylight waned and the mermaids were done creating, they left their tails behind and the shells too, and we strolled back to the boardwalk and inside.
Oh how I long for that beach and the perfect weather and the carefree thoughts of that evening! Someday all will be even more perfect than that – soon I hope!
