I had a revelation the other day.
Nothing earth shattering.
Nothing that’s going to make any big difference.
No shout-it-from-the-rooftop news.
But it was a revelation to me all the same.
I figured out a common denominator connecting my favorite towels.
That’s right.
Towels.
First off, I’m thankful for clean fresh towels. {That’s not the revelation.}
Second off, {I know-that makes no sense. Why, though, do we say first off?}
Secondly, it makes me happy to have towels in colors that I love.
And third, I find that I have favorite towels.
I find that there’s a hand towel in the bathroom I always reach for when it is clean. There are two of our bath towels that are my favorites. I riffle through the stack of washcloths and pull out my favorite.
There’s a towel in my kitchen that I find myself reaching for when I see it peeking out of the stack in the drawer.
I’ve always really liked many of the washcloths in our basement bathroom. We had them at our old house and have used them for a long time. Quite a few of them were washcloths that my mother gave us in colors to match my shower curtain.
SO!
I had this revelation the other day as to what connected the dots among these favorites.
Are you ready???
It is the texture!! All of my favorites have a texture to them. They sort of have ribs. A little bit like ribbed knit. I’d never stopped and put this together. I was excited to discover this bit of information. I really was.
Whenever I need to shop for towels again, I’m going to keep this in my mind. I hope I remember anyway. Most of my towels are in pretty good shape, so I shouldn’t need to shop for towels for a long time. Maybe I can put it on Pinterest or something, so that when I need towels I can remember. Of course, Pinterest may be long outdated by then. Towels do last a long time and my mother gave me several for Christmas right before we moved into our new-to-us house. Since we now had more than one bathroom, we needed towels for them.
I’ve always kind of had a thing for pretty bathtowels. I guess it’s just part of having things in your home that you use and things in your home that you love. I like having useful things that are also pretty or in a style I truly love!
I talked about my drinking glass preferences here, and three things I like about having windows open over here. I’ve posted about my very favorite dishcloths, so now I guess I know my towel texture preferences as well.
Little things do matter. 🙂
Check the textures!

I just decided last night that it is time to toss all my kitchen towels and buy a stack of new ones. I’m tired of all of them having craft paint and stains on them. Next time I’m at IKEA I’m buying about 20 of their white with red stripe 79 cent tea-towels and I’m closing my eyes and tossing the old yucky things I have here!

Old towels make great rags or beds for cats and kittens etc etc! Then you feel like they are getting completely used. Plus, my farmer man/oil well pumper will always take rags!
And it is nice to have good kitchen towels…and pretty! Even though it doesn’t take long at all for them to start looking used. But, hey, a kitchen is a busy place.
