My brother had a birthday coming up and I knew what I wanted to make and gift him with for his birthday.
I’d pinned the idea for a Lollipop Bouquet to my Pinterest Gift-Giving Ideas Board.
Over at A Mom’s Life her daughter had made one for her brother’s birthday and I thought it was such a cute, not to mention, simple and easy idea!
I bought some styrofoam at Wal-Mart and then checked around through my gift stuff to see what I had to use for the holder.
I’d received a set of notecards in this bright, happy, stripey box and saved the box, because, well, it’s bright and stripey and happy!
It worked perfectly with the styrofoam ball that I had. So, I stuffed the box with good ole Wal-Mart bags as filler.
Then, I placed the styrofoam ball on top.
Like so.
Then I ripped open the bags of lollipops and dumped them out on my kitchen island.
And started inserting them into the styrofoam.
I just stuck them in starting with the outer edge and kept adding and tweaking and working with it to fill it in and get it in a bouquet that I liked.
It was simple. It just sort of filled itself in as I went.
I was delighted with how it turned out. And I totally enjoyed creating it.
I rummaged around and then added this tulle bow to the box.
And it was done and done and ready for delivery, along with the Peanut Butter Pie we made for him. {My husband was jealously eyeing the Peanut Butter Pie. 😉 So, we made Strawberry Pie later for us }
Now hop back to the beginning when I said I knew what I wanted to do for my bro’s birthday. These lollipop bouquets are very fun and very cute, but that wasn’t my sole reason for wanting to make one for him.
We’ve had a long-standing joke for more years, now, than I would guess. {I’m so starting to relate to older people who comment that some event was, “just a year or two ago,” when in reality it was six or eight or ten or fifteen years ago.}
One year as he was compiling his list of Christmas gift ideas and asking what I wanted or needed and talking about figuring out gift ideas, he jokingly made some comment about going all out for Christmas this year and “did I like the kind with bubble gum or tootsie roll?”
It was one of those crazy moments that morphs itself into a memorable moment and family joke. To this day we still ask on occasion “Do you prefer tootsie roll or bubble gum?”
And every now and then, blow-pops or tootsie-pops show up among the gifts. You know, on those occasions, when you want to go ALL OUT.
I like the kind with tootsie roll and he prefers the bubblegum kind.
Hence, not just a lollipop bouquet, but a
Bubblegum Lollipop Bouquet.
So what’s your preference? Bubble gum or tootsie roll?
{In case anyone should happen to want to shop for a gift.}
That’s a lot of bubble gum to chaw on! It looks adorable. I’d say you went all out,BIG time!
It’s Big! Really big. It’s big. 🙂 🙂
Deborah, this is so adorable! What a great gift! I love that it also has special meaning to you!
