The harvest in Kansas, the harvest of wheat,
Each year it is hectic and busy, but neat,
The combines are rolling, dust in the air,
Wheat heads are waving, golden and fair,
My man’s in the combine, surveying his crop,
Till the harvest is done, he won’t hardly stop,
The truck and its driver patiently wait,
To head into town with a trailer of grain,
The wind blows hard, fogging the dust,
Blowing, and gusting and tearing at us,
The grain rolls in as the combines drone,
Making stubble of fields where the wheat has grown,
Back and forth and up and down the field,
Header rumbling, reaping the yield,
Beautiful, golden, plump kernels of wheat,
Providing grain for people to eat,
What an increase from God that to us has been given,
Growing from seed that had died, then was living,
Beautiful heads bent on their stalks,
Full and ripe and providing a crop,
What a bountiful blessing! In hope we did sow,
With faith we expected that a crop would grow,
The hail this spring was not warmly greeted,
Pounding on wheat fields that were fully headed,
The sweat and the tears, the work and the wait,
All part of what makes each harvest so great,
Harvest is part of a farmer’s being,
The result of his work, the result of his waiting,
Making a living as this earth brings forth,
Bounty upon bounty from it’s endless rich stores.

🙂 Great poem! I so want to be in Kansas right now.
Love the pictures and the poem! Praying the God of harvest to bless you all.
I LOVE these pictures. I live in the greater Los Angeles area, and scenes like these can’t be seen from around here. Honestly, there’s just too much cement where I live. The view of golden wheat, as far as the eye can see, is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing! 🙂
There are times that I stop and contemplate on how blessed we are to live where we do! I know there are people that can’t imagine living anywhere, but in a city.
I am grateful for what we do and the views we have! I like my Kansas wheatfields really well!
I’ve really been craving the country lately. I went to school in Iowa, and I loved watching the fields change shape and texture as the planting/growing/harvesting cycle went on year after year. Thanks for all the wonderful reminders!
We have traveled through Iowa and I thought it was beautiful!
