One of my favorite autumn colors is baby wheat shining green. We’re right in the midst of wheat drilling. The freshly cultivated fields with the lines and furrows in the dirt are ever a source of beauty to me. We had a few fields sowed and then, as It Does, the rain fell. We have baby wheat springing forth and we have fields lying silently in wait of a bit of drying out and then seed.
We’re welcoming a book to ADG today called The Growing Season. It’s a Year of Down-on-the-Farm devotions.
I’m delighted to share a book from a fellow farm family. There’s a giveaway for a copy of your own, comrade friends!
{affiliate links in this post. thank you for your support!}
This book is filled with devotions for all four seasons. The entries are cataloged into months, January through December. There are recipes, Scripture readings, prayers, and Farmer Perry tips.
You’ll find Ruthe’s Pimento Cheese. Gretchen’s Blackberry Cobbler. Chrissi’s Creamed Corn. Amber’s Apple Dumplings. Down-home Deliciousness!
Farmer Perry gives tips from saving heirloom seeds to how to tell if an egg is fresh.
Sarah Philpott pulls lessons from the everyday and the furrowed dirt of their Tennessee cattle ranch. Her words give pause to the splendor of God’s growing earth and His provision in all seasons.
Each devotional entry is a short two to four pages. Inspirational devotionals like this one are ideal for days and seasons when your time is limited. They offer encouragement in easy-to-digest snippets. Each entry can stand alone too. I appreciate this in the days when the minutes aren’t available for longer chapters and continuing subjects.
The very end of the book holds two pages titled Say What?
They’re filled with humor and some of the best of the best Southern expressions compiled by Sarah’s friend, Leah Davis.
A few worthy of mention:
- Let’s mosey on.
- Clutch my pearls!
- I might could do that.
- Play a song with a little life in it.
- You want lemon in your tea?
- Key lime pie goes with everything.
