Today, finds my fingers on the keys of my computer, pecking away to jot down a list of ten simple sayings I’ve acquired from here and there. They stick in my head and I love the sentiments that belong to each one. They’ve inspired, encouraged and added value and direction to my life.
They’re simple.
That’s, of course, why they resonate with me.
I love a good quote. I love finding words that make me happy or give me pause and let me ponder or sum up something I want to add in to my life.
Some of these things I did long before I had a term for them. Probably another reason I resonated with them and was happy-de-dappy to have a fun name for the concept!
Here’s my list…………………….
1. Upgrade the Everyday.
This phrase comes from Andrea Dekker. She uses it to describe adding simple, happy touches to your everyday daily.
Here’s a few of my ideas and ways to do this in my life ~
Fixing a fun snack for your kiddos, taking a few minutes to read a favorite book or blog, having an impromptu movie night and popcorn, pulling out colorful straws to sip your water with, dunking slices of lemon into your water glass, sipping tea out of a favorite teacup, taking a walk, taking pictures, taking a favorite drink to my man, trying a new recipe {cooking becomes more fun instead of one-more-meal-to-fix} using pretty napkins, using my good silverware, clearing off my kitchen island, handlettering, looking for laughter and the lovely……..
…………the ideas are endless…..basically anything relatively simple that adds smiles and spice to YOUR life….totally customizable and tailored to fit our uniqueness!
2. Shopping the House
{I am unsure where I first read this concept. My three guesses are Melissa Michaels, The Nester, or Karianne Wood.}
This idea is super simple. When you rearrange a room or want to change-up decor, shop your house!!! Look around your other rooms. Look at what you have in storage. Try changing a few things. Work with what you have before you throw it all out in favor of something else. I love this concept and idea and use it often. My problem??? I’ll think of a basket or storage container or cute decor piece I have and then I CAN’T REMEMBER where it is. I quite literally shop all over the house just looking for it to try it out in the new space or idea I’ve had for it! Ha! 🙂
3. Everyday on Display
This name does come from Melissa Michaels and it means finding things you love and use often that are also beautiful and become part of your home’s coziness and decor. Favorite mugs can create a coffee center. A lovely glass container holds powdered laundry detergent. Throws and blankets drape couches or roll up in baskets nearby. Wooden spoons look cute in a Mason jar on the countertop. Bright wash cloths make a pretty display in the bathroom.
4. It Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect to be Beautiful.
This phrase is the byline on The Nester’s book. I love this. Beauty is in imperfections and broken and everyday messy. Beauty is found in the middle of living and in the process of creating homes and spaces we love. Embrace the beauty and realize perfect rarely lasts.
5. Delighting in the Daily Details
Yes. This phrase from yours truly. I do love it and I do almost daily need the reminder to pause and give gratitude for all the things and details that make up this life of mine! The imperfections, the dirty dishes, the distractions, I can almost always turn them inside out and find the gold and silver if I’m willing to try! Everyday home and routine is very much a favorite!
6. Every Good Day
This is a phrase and hashtag on IG, I’ve used for quite a while now. I am grateful for every good day. No promises or guarantees and this IS the day the Lord has made and life WILL NOT always be as it is today.
7. Do the Next Thing
This has been a good motivational reminder for me when I begin to feel overwhelmed or I AM overwhelmed and frazzled. It gives me focus and direction. Just do the next thing that must be done. Check it and then DO THE NEXT THING.
8. So Close to Amazing
This way of labeling life’s not-quite-amazing moments totally comes from KariAnne Wood and her book So Close to Amazing. I love the book and love the saying!!! When my project fails and the cookies flop or I forget the laundry in the washer, well, it’s #soclosetoamazing. ‘Cause we all have those days and we all have those things that we picture so perfectly in our heads, yet the scenarios don’t always come out so amazingly in real life!!! So close. Just so close. {In these cases, it’s also good to refer to #4.}

9. Live Loved.
I have a pillow from my sister with these words on it. A reminder to Live Loved in Jesus. He created me and He loves me more than I can think or imagine and He calls me chosen and loved and redeemed and HIS. I often fail in remembering to Live Loved and rest in Him and His grace and care for me and my life.

10. Laugh often, long and loud.
A friend gave me a sign with these words on it, a whole buncha years ago. I love this reminder. Don’t just laugh. Laugh often. From deep within. With deep meaning and pure enjoyment. Laugh! Giggle! Guffaw! Rejoice! Delight in! Chortle! Be Glad!!
