The first book I’m chatting about today is this new devotional, Awaken, by Priscilla Shirer. I added it to my wishlist when I saw it was releasing.
Then I received the opportunity to review it from B&H/Lifeway.
I’ve done several of Priscilla’s Bible studies and appreciate learning from them.
I thoroughly enjoy devotionals. I like how I can pick up one and read the selection for one day or read several days if I want. If I’m pushed for time, most devotionals are a just-right-amount-of-reading and give me inspiration. I like the focus on one verse or a few verses.
One of the things I like about Priscilla’s devotional is this.
In the introduction, she shares that she didn’t set out to write a devotional. Many of the lessons and chapters shared in this book were personal to her and she didn’t start out with the intent of publishing them. They were simply a way of writing out and learning in her personal study time.
The lesson I love from this is the inspiration to me to spend time praying, journaling, growing in God in the way that works for me. I like to write and journal, so as it happens, this works for me. Not everyone is a journaler, but I love that God wants us to come to Him wherever we are and we can praise Him in a variety of ways.
Here’s a look inside Awaken!
Each day has a couple of pages to read and then a few questions and a place for personal journaling.
This devotional contains ninety entries.
I really like it. Priscilla Shirer is one of my personal favorites. She encourages my heart. I so appreciate her love of God and love of the Word.
Here’s another super fun book I received from B&H/Lifeway to review.
The Big and Little Coloring Devotional.
Look!!! It’s a fun idea!
It was created for parents and children to use together and combines coloring and devotions.
Each spread contains an adult coloring page and across from it a child’s coloring page.
Both pages contain the same Bible verse.
The adult pages also contain a short, encouraging devotional.
It’s really such a neat idea! Life is busy when you’re a mama with littles.
If you enjoy coloring with your small people, and would like to also slip in a little meditation time this book is a good find! It also is a good prompt to go over Bible verses or choose a few to memorize. For some kiddos, the coloring page combined with the verse would be a great visual help for memorization.
I remember my mother coloring with me when I was little and I remember sitting down with my small people and coloring with them now and then.
B&H/Lifeway also shared the She Reads Truth Bible with me to review.
You can read about this Bible a little more in my post over here. I hosted a giveaway for one back in the spring. The giveaway is over, but you can still see pictures and read about the Bible. And hop to this post, to find some beautiful handmade Bible tabs that coordinate with the SRT Bible. It was a giveaway too, that is now over. 🙂
The SRT Bible is available in several colors and cover selections. I really, really love this poppy color. So cheery!
The Bible is also available in gray hardcover, gray linen, navy leather and brown leather.
The Bible is the Bible. It is precious no matter what form it comes in. It is life. God speaks to us through His Word.
I do enjoy the beauty of this Bible. I like the handlettered pages containing a verse from that Bible book, at the beginning of each book.
This Bible is indexed. Each tab contains three book names.
I got busy snapping pictures!!! 🙂
Here are both of the SRT Bible copies I have. My first one is the gray hardcover.
I really love the double ribbon marker detail of these Bibles.
This photo shows my gray copy with the handmade Bible tabs. They really do add a lovely touch.
{You can find the Bible tabs over on Etsy at the shop, Find Wondrous Things.}
I think the SRT Bible and the Bible tabs would make a beautiful gift combination for a friend or sister or daughter.
I neglected to take pictures of my knitting. I’ve been working on a few dishcloths. Another of my recent projects was taking family photos for my sister-in-law and brother-in-law and their littles. It was lots of fun! We were able to capture some of the beautiful autumn light. I spent some time editing and if you have ever messed with pics or anything digital, you will know how much time can slip away quite quickly!!!
I love taking pictures and I like editing them, except for how much time it can turn into. 🙂
