For two or three years now, I’ve thought very much about purchasing the Advent study from She Reads Truth, but so far I never had. I love the Christmas season, but it adds extras and I didn’t know if I would get the study done. We often travel and I always had other Bible studies I was working on.
This year, I took the plunge!
And I’m so glad I did.
It’s a beautiful book.
Right inside the front cover is a vellum type page, a little bit like the paper on the top of a box of fancy chocolates. Then there’s a nameplate page with This Book Belongs To and a place to fill in your name and the date.
I love nameplate pages in books.
Each day contains selections of Scripture reading and a lined page for journaling or notes or penciling out your prayers.
That’s all each day holds. It’s not a study book that contains teachings on the passages or lesson.
It’s Old and New Testament Scripture and YOUR ponderings and thoughts. The Scriptures are all contained in the book.
You can then join in with the online community and reading plan at She Reads Truth.com or using the SRT app.
There are Christmas traditions and the meanings behind them scattered throughout it. Totally my thing! I love reading these kind of stories and details.
It has hymns! Isn’t this pretty?
It also has recipes in it!
I made this Citrus Garland.
It’s more of a project, but the rest of the recipes are for food!
So super simple!
You slice your choice of citrus in thin slices and bake at 200 degrees for 5 or 6 hours. Check your slices and turn a few times.
You can stick cloves in the slices for added visual appeal and for the Christmasey scent as they bake.
Then you string your slices to make your garland!
I used Baker’s Twine and I used a fork tine to make a small hole in my slices to run the string through.
I laid my slice out in the order I wanted to string them.
I began stringing and tying small knots to hold the pieces.
Then I added it to my board in the basement.
I hung mine as a string rather than a garland, but it could totally be hung on a stairway or mantle.
Close up look!
I really like it! It adds a fun detail!
If you want a simple project, this may be your thing!
