But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times. ~ Micah 5:2
She smiles big, joy and excitement etched across her face.
She’s happy to step into the reenacting and retelling of this story from long ago, whose origins began in ancient times.
She puts on costume and robe and applies stage makeup for the lights and becomes one of the townspeople portraying small town Bethlehem life. She’s always loved pretend play and stories and imagination.
She smiles and sings and sounds out praise with the choir as they celebrate this season and our Savior come to earth long ago! She makes a new friend and carries a baby puppy in one part of the pageant. She tells me that each performance goes by too quickly.
And I find myself feeling the whisper touch of “never long enough”.
I picture the face and tears of the dear man who said goodbye last week to his wife and sweetheart of seventy years.
Seventy years together! What a gift!
Yet.
There’s never quite enough time with the people we love. 5 years. 20 years. 50. 70. We’re never quite done.
Looking back, it always goes too quickly.
But friends! We’re only separated for a little season.
Yes. It hurts. Hard and sad and deep some days.
But glorious good news!!!
The Ancient of Days, whose origins are from old, He came down, nestled in a manger of hay and heaven was heralded with angel hallelujahs!
And soon, very soon, we’ll step right over that cusp of eternity and out of the framework of time here, and fall at His feet and clasp His hands and it will be long enough.
The moments won’t slip through our fingers and the hurts will be gone and the heavens will ring where Jesus is King!
May we clasp His promises this Christmas season!
