Hello to baking! I’ve been baby-sitting my mother-in-law’s sourdough starter. I had a big baking day making friendship bread and baking loaves of wheat and white sourdough bread. The friendship bread is a cinnamon-sugar quick type bread made from the sourdough. It is yummy. We ate some of it and I stuck several loaves of bread in the freezer. With our kiddos gone, I’ve noticed a difference. Food doesn’t disappear as quickly.
I also didn’t take very many photos this week. I often pick up my camera to snap pictures of R&T at whatever they’re out and about doing. It’s also been kind of quiet! I have worked on a couple projects that take some thought and were nice to work on without interruption. We are looking forward to seeing {and hugging} our kiddos again. We’re so glad they have grandparents to spend time with, though.
Hello pizza night and hello working on bulldozer!
Hello Lilla Rose photos and a fun group photo contest!
Still thinking of and praying for all the people in Oklahoma affected by the devastating tornado. So life-changing and overwhelming.
We’ve been busy taking care of pets and chores for pets while our kiddos are gone. I’ll be glad to turn it back over to them. And my man has done a lot of it. 🙂 I finally sorted through pictures and had a bunch printed to put in my kiddos photo books. I cleaned the doctor’s office with my friend. It was fun to have her helping again. I spent extra time with my husband. And loved it.
I went out for lunch with my friend and did a few errands around town.
I folded laundry. My kiddos are chief laundry folders at our house and they weren’t around to do it. I texted my mother one day and told her to tell Renae that I was having to fold laundry by myself and it was rather lonely. My daughter said to tell me to turn some music on. I don’t think she was feeling too sorry for me. 🙂 I’m glad they’ve been having a great time!
I helped my husband check some systems and check oil wells. Help as in riding along and observing. I did do a couple of small things while he was getting one going again.
We grilled out over the weekend with my brother and my husband’s brother and watched some of the Indy 500. Good food and good times and good laughs. Plus, we got to try out a Traeger grill. We’re thinking it’s pretty nice! Our grill was a wedding gift and it works, but it could very well use upgrading sometime.
Here’s hoping you had a great Memorial Day weekend!
Oh boy, I’d like to babysit someone’s sourdough starter sometime! And I love your Lilla Rose clip on the wheat – beautiful! Have a great week!
I do like having the sourdough starter and using it, but not having to take care of it all the time. 🙂
Your bread looks delicious. I saw it on the Better Mom Monday and had to come take a closer look. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the frozen loaves as well.
Bless you,
Gail
Thanks for letting me know you stopped by! It will be nice to have bread in the freezer. I’m always glad it’s there, when I pull freezer food out to use. 🙂
We are having so much fun!! But we really miss you guys! That’s a really neat piciture of the Lilla Rose clip. Did it win a prize? The bread looks so yummy. God bless your week.
No, I didn’t win any prizes and I’m not sure I even submitted this photo. I took quite a few! 🙂 There were lots of great photos in our group.
So glad you’re having fun and we miss you all too!
We have loved having your kiddos here! Tucker did say yesterday that he kind of missed his trampoline, Tiger, and Cooper. I asked him what about his Mom and Dad, and he said, “oh yeah, them too”!!! So funny – that is how Larke was when she came out there without us. She missed the cat!
Renae said she wasn’t going to go home when we thought they were leaving this morning!
Last night it was really feeling like you and Matthew should be showing up. Wish there weren’t so many miles between.
I can just hear Renae. 🙂 Kids are funny! I’m glad they miss us too. 🙂 I really am glad that they are having a great time. It wouldn’t be fun if they were truly homesick.
Could you send me the recipe for Friendship Bread? I have a starter and would love more recipes.
Sure! It has a good bit of cinnamon and sugar, which of course makes it yummy!
Amish Friendship Bread
2 cups starter
3 eggs
1 cup oil
1/2 cup milk
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups flour
1 large box instant vanilla pudding
Grease 2 large loaf pans and mix an additional 1/2 cup sugar and 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Dust the greased pan with half of the mixture. Pour the batter evenly into 2 pans and sprinkle remaining sugar mixture over the top.
Bake for 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool until bread loosens from pan evenly. {About 10 minutes}
You can change this up by adding blueberries or omitting cinnamon and using choc pudding and choc chips. Really, just however creative you want to get. You can also use muffin tins etc.
Enjoy!
I had a starter for a long time, I had heard you could even freeze it when you didn’t need bread. So I put 2 cups in the freezer and gave away the rest. Well, the bag in the freezer got a hole and Kendra no longer has starter. Oh well 🙂 I don’t really miss having to babysit it. 🙂
I like taking care of my mother-in-law’s now and then or getting enough from her to bake, but I don’t mind not needing to mess with it all the time. 🙂
