We started out our week celebrating my “baby” brother’s birthday! We fixed a birthday supper for him and had Matthew’s older brother come over too. We like to hang out with both of them. It’s always fun and makes some good laughs. Uncle Jordan brought his remote control truck for Tuck to run. And it was an absolutely gorgeous day! We had meat loaf and mac and and cheese and green-bean corn casserole and crunchy salad and peanut butter pie and apple pie. We played pool and read Pat McManus and just relaxed. Was nice!
Well, really our week started by relaxing and chatting with some friends at their house, on Sunday afternoon. We started watching The Truth Project dvds a bit back and so we also watched one of the tours. Then we went to Bible study in the evening. We’ve missed several since the beginning of the year, so we were glad to be there again. The Sunday evening Bible study group is using study guides from Ken Ham and we enjoy it and we appreciate Ken Ham and his ministry.
Along with the birthday to celebrate, the beginning of the week brought railing for the porch! Hooray! As we’ve worked on our house and around our farm, some of the changes I will think about a lot or notice the change for quite a while. Something about the railing though, feels to me like it’s always been here and just belongs. I think about it and love it, but it hasn’t seemed new or different. It just feels like it fits, I guess! 🙂
I haven’t gone out and taken a picture of the front of the house since it’s finished. Well, technically, it’s not quite finished. We still need a few post caps.
Starting some work at the systems again, plus helping with strip tilling. Not quite ready for farmwork to start back up. We still have winter projects! But we knew we wouldn’t get our to-do list at all done. That never happens! That’s life though, and without any goals, we’d really find ourselves not getting anything done, I’m sure!
THIS!!!!
This lovely spring gift was dropped off in my laundry room! I will confess that I adore the gifts this friend gives me. They are always so much fun. Just like she is!! I gave my sister a set of the button coasters for Christmas. I chuckled when I pulled them out of the gift bag. I think my friend knows me well! And the little gray zippered, compartmentilized bag??? Seriously love! I adore bags and organizers, big and small. Like, I could have way too many just because…..that really makes sense when it comes to the organizing part!! Cause it would just be more stuff to organize! heehee!
It’s time to bake, what shall we make??? Hmmm….I spy a Lemon Cake!!
Totally delicious, unless you are not a lemon fan. I am.
Just because it begged me to take a picture.
Isn’t this beautiful? I went to a women’s ministry meeting and they were celebrating their two-year anniversary. They were giving away this wooden butterfly box and my name was chosen! I was surprised and delighted. I like things crafted from wood. It is a jewelry box and has four compartments. It was made by the husband of the woman who started the ministry. His hobby is woodcrafting. She helps him out with different details, so it’s a pretty cool thing for them to do together. The woods are all naturally colored, no staining. They varnish the finished pieces, but no stain. The bottom two colors on the wings are cedar woods. Very similar, but a slight difference. The body is black walnut. The top of the wings is a wood from another country. They order it, but it does not grow here in the U.S. The box itself is poplar and I think the other wood on the wings was ash.
The butterfly is a symbol of this women’s ministry group as it symbolizes transformation and new life.
I was so glad I went and not because I won the drawing! 🙂 It was very inspiring and the speaker had a very encouraging and motivating message. I was blessed.

Butterflies always make me chuckle a little. We bought our farm from an older couple, who were moving so they could live closer to some of their children. This dear lady loved butterflies and when we moved into our old, old farmhouse {that isn’t there anymore} there were a lot of butterflies that came with it!!
Butterfly grippies on the bottom of the bathtub. Butterfly tiles behind the stove. Butterfly wallpaper in the bedroom.
Butterflies weren’t my top choice for decor and no offense to the former owner of our house, but all the butterfly decor was rather dated by the time they sold their farm to us, so it didn’t really make me any fonder of it. We changed the grippies and tile before we moved in, but we did have butterfly wallpaper for a few years, until some friends helped me scrape it off and we painted the walls. I was quite happy to have a bedroom that was more my decor style! 🙂
But look at the great story I would’ve missed and the many fond jokes my family and friends have had with me over the years about butterflies.
As you can imagine, the first thing my husband said when I showed him the butterfly box, was to mention the lady we bought our farm from!

Oh, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day today! I don’t really always keep up with holidays and dates all that well, but I did notice that today’s the day!

You have a beautiful home. The porch looks great. Love the butterfly box.
Thank-you!
The butterfly box is very pretty and it will inspire me! 🙂
You know what I thought of when I saw the butterfly box. Thanks for sharing the story.
So what happened to the rest of my comments?
Hmm, I don’t know. Did WordPress eat part of your comment?
That box is beautiful – even if it IS a butterfly! I was chuckling as soon as I saw it! Love that the wood is its natural color!
Loving your porch railing too.
