I clicked over to Pinterest a few weeks ago to browse for a bit. Pinterest has started doing that whole picked-for-you bit and selecting pins for your feed. I hadn’t paid that much attention and probably really wouldn’t have realized they were doing this, except a few days earlier I had read a sarcastic humor comment from Big Mama thanking Pinterest for choosing pins for her.
This pin caught my eye and then I noticed it said, “Picked for you.” Or however it is they say it. I will say they did a good job choosing this one for me. It was a pin for cupcake surprises topped with marshmallow peeps. Click over here to see the idea and recipe. Plus, theirs are much prettier. But we had fun making them!
I pinned it to my Easter board. I wasn’t sure if we’d get them made this year, but we did. I do really like Pinterest for pinning ideas I want to remember or things I like. Pinterest itself was certainly a totally awesome idea.
I do not like to eat marshmallow peeps, but I think they are adorable! They just have a cheery, chubby look!
Last year, I’d noticed the idea for a Peeps cake in a magazine and we made it. You can see our cake post here.
I guess I am unofficially in to making baked things and topping them with marshmallow peeps! Ha!
These were fun. We created a hollow in each cake and filled with sprinkles and one or two candy eggs. We were icing them just like this, but then Renae realized we could stuff the extra cake back on top, so we did; and then added the frosting on top.
I have a cake recipe from a cousin that uses a cake mix and then tells you what to add to it. It’s different from what the cake mix box calls for. I like to use this recipe when I remember.
We used it for our cupcakes and we made our own frosting. The site and recipe for the cupcakes just called for ready-made frosting. I will use ready-made frosting on occasion, but I much prefer to make it. Once again, I have a favorite butter cream type frosting recipe. I can be choosy about my favorite recipes! 🙂 I like the ease of ready-made and store bought and there are times this comes in so handy, but I would rather make my favorite recipes when I can.
Quite the bevy of cupcakes and peeps! {the word bevy, makes me think of Eugene from Odyssey.}
I thought this peep was so adorable. She has her head turned in such a cute way.
Packaged cupcakes~that part is fun too!
I’ve long enjoyed baking projects. I still tend to forget that they do take some time. From the mixing to the fixing to the packaging and putting away. Yet, I think creativeness enriches our lives in whatever way or area it blossoms in for each one of us. It’s worth taking time for hobbies and things you love.
Whether it’s baking or hunting or welding or Lego building or sewing or creating websites…innumerable things and talents!!!
And more and more it is impressed upon my heart what a special thing memories are and what a special privilege it is to get to create home for my family. Each peaceful day is such a gift.
I hear myself saying the same things over and over it seems as I blog. I think, because much of it is deep in my heart and I am so thankful for so many simple daily details. And blogging can turn in to thinking-it-out, for me, as I peck away at my computer.
Do you have any spoken or unspoken Easter traditions?
That is a fun baking project! I will say that I dislike all the Pinterest changes – but that ‘picked pin’ was cool!
