I saw the idea for a cake topped with marshmallow Peeps in a magazine and thought it looked like fun. I am far from blue ribbon category or magazine photo worthy or Pinterest Perfect when it comes to culinary creations. I just enjoy baking and trying out new recipes now and then. When I get tired of cooking, I like to flip through cookbooks or search online for a new recipe or two to try. None of that really has anything to do with this cake; it’s just the thoughts that I started thinking as I sat here typing and posting this post.
We decided to get stuff for this cake and make it and deliver it to some friends for a happy springtime cake!
When we shopped our local Wal-Mart, they didn’t have yellow Peeps or yellow sprinkles like the magazine showed. We improvised and went with what we could get. The magazine cake had made a little nest {out of Twizzlers, maybe??? can’t remember} as their very top layer. I didn’t want to do that, so we didn’t worry about it.
Renae ended up pretty much making the cake which was fine with me. Tucker came along and wanted to help and it hadn’t even occurred to me that he might be interested. He does enjoy working in the kitchen and both of my kiddos have liked making their own birthday cakes. We let Renae do this one, but I could’ve gotten stuff for them each to do one, I think! 🙂 Tucker and I did pitch in and help put the flower sprinkles all around the outside edge of the cake.
It was fun to create a bright spot of spring! Well, for me that would be to watch Renae bring it together and take pictures of it!
I liked to bake when I was Renae’s age and younger and spent a good bit of time in my mom’s kitchen making bread or cookies. I think I baked more then, than I do now. It’s still therapeutic to roll out butterhorns or pie crust or put together an apple goodie or mix up monster cookies!
When Renae delivered the cake she said our friends’ son exclaimed, “Sugar!!”
Yep. Pretty much.
And it worked out well, because there were four Peeps left over. My cake-decorator kiddos were easily able to take care of them for us!
Happy Spring! It’s really coming!

The cake is almost as pretty as the lovely young lady who made it! I think it is so neat that Tucker likes to work on the kitchen. Wondering who the lucky friends were. Such a lovely way to celebrate spring.
The cake was really fun and this season of life with the ages of my kiddos holds some really special moments and times. I’ve been recently reminded, yet again, how thankful I am for my children!
What fun! Emma likes to cook and bake too – but not in our kitchen. Can’t say as I blame her a lot. She likes to go to Grandma’s to cook!
