“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don’t become so well adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” ~ Romans 12:1-2
Formed from the inside out
Changed from the inside out.
Oh, so slow, so often.
Too slow.
So hard.
I want the best in me, in every day, in every way.
right now, please, Lord.
Could you hurry?
And could you please remove the hassle of it?
The pain? The hardship?
Oh, and perhaps, could you infuse a bit more excitement in the ordinary? More fun?
A lot of my walking-around life is rather mundane.
Tasks requiring repeating over and over and over.
Because God, I bet I could proffer a better offering to you if we added more pizzazz and lessened the laundry.
Surely the best in me is above lint traps and limp dishrags and lost socks.
Might it not be found in a hidden talent or fast-track trajectory?
“What’s that you say? Could you repeat it God?”
Hmmmm.
So, true transformation happens in the hidden life? In serving. In smiling.
In the upside down kingdom of Jesus.
Real worship glows gratitude for the grace in ordinary days.
Offering is bringing my all?
The tear-soaked pillow, the chronic pain, the debilitating darkness and doubt, the songs of praise, the bubbles in the sink, the laughter from deep within, the marvel of sunset, the work-worn lines, the stab of loneliness, the overflowing joy.
All of it? All of me?
That’s really what you want?
Relationship with me?
Molding me into the best me?
I’m not much to work with, Lord.
My sleeping and eating and walking around are, well,
unremarkably commonplace.
What’s that?
Oh, you created me and know everything about me.
That’s true. And amazing.
You choose me.
I give you me.
