Happy mail. I like sending it and receiving it. Fun cards, encouraging notes, letters of appreciation. These all qualify for the happy mail category.
How about some happy MAILBOXES today?!
I came across this cute craft on Pinterest and knew it would be fun to make for my little nieces for Valentine’s Day!
And that’s what I did!
I cut and glued and snipped and taped and snapped photos and made little cards and filled the Happy Mailboxes with candy!!!
You’ll find the free template and pattern over here on Bren Did’s blog, along with lots of other cute ideas and free printables. Pop over there to browse around and check out her mailboxes and DIY for putting them together. I used her pattern and instructions with a few of my own variations. She also has a pattern for a tiny card and envelope to tuck in your mailbox, but I skipped making those.
I traced around my pattern and got ready to cut.
I used my tracing wheel to score the fold lines lightly.
Folding it to form my box!
Β I used my hot glue gun to glue it together. {I recently purchased a mini hot glue gun and I really love it.}{Hot glue guns are a paper crafter/crafter’s BFF.} π
My inside band and flag ready and waiting.
Washi tape for a fun contrast and to secure the back. I also used my hot glue gun slightly along the edges on a couple of them to help with the hold.
More washi to make my happy mailbox door!
Adding the inside edge band. It makes a fun contrast and helps hold the door snug when closed.
A flag that rotates is one of the best features!
I used my hole punch to make a hole in the flag and then used the end of the brad to gently poke through the side of my happy mailbox to place it.
The brads I had were really a bit too long, but I just folded up the end of one side to shorten it!
Washi fun!
Time to fill them! I tucked in candy and little notes that said, “Sending sweet treats your way….and lots of LOVE too!” And stuck in Hello Kitty stickers too, of course!!
I had a Valentine’s tea-party for my little nieces and put a Happy Mailbox at each of their places! So fun!
Even if you didn’t make these specifically for Valentine’s Day, they’re a fun craft that older children would enjoy making and younger kids would enjoy playing with…….at anytime of the year! π Or you could use them along with a study about the U.S. Postal system OR give them to someone as a Happy Mailbox just because!
