Readers love books.
A close second is found in bookish accessories or book-related items that accompany our reading lives and bring delight to our days. Here are a few of mine that have been languishing in a google doc waiting for me to bring this list to light and life here at ADG and share them with you.
Let’s get to it!
- Bookmory app ~ this app had brought me endless amounts of happy joy as I categorize and organize books I’ve read, books I’m reading and books I want to read. It’s so satisfying to look at the books I’ve read each month. I also like having a place to add titles I want to remember, though I’ve had various ways I make book lists for years, so I still tend to have a VERY hodge-podge system in a combination of several places. The sole motivator for finding the app was my desire for a better way to record my favorite books read throughout the year and Bookmory has been perfect for me for that. I also love having a quick reference to remind me of what books I’ve read or I’m reading when it come sup in conversation or when I can’t remember a title of a particular book.
- Readers ~ ah,yes, here we are. A half dozen reading glasses on rotation on any given day. I am definitively in my Readers Era. Peepers is a favorite brand. One of the perks of readers, in my opinion, is that they come in a huge variety of colors and styles. Since I don’t wear them all day long I have had such fun buying them in colors and designs I would never buy my prescription glasses in.
- Headphones/earbuds – I listen to audiobooks much of the time when I am doing chores or mowing or folding laundry. I like these earbuds for in the house when my people are coming and going, these headphones for when I must push a vacuum, and these earbuds are my go-to for mowing. Bonus: these are what I like when I fly because they go around my neck and I don’t have to worry about dropping an earbud into the dark depths of the airplane seats or floor.
- Bookseat ~ hands free reading….until you need to turn the page. I looked at these bookseats for years and would always be delighted with how adorable they are. Turns out they’re very handy for a n e-reader or book.
- Paperwhite e-reader ~ I read a post on the Modern Mrs. Darcy where one of Anne Bogel’s team wrote about her love for e-readers. I ordered a Paperwhite and haven’t looked back. It has changed my reading life in the best way. I use it every night when I go to bed. I love it because it is lightweight. It has its own light so I don’t need a lamp or a neck reading light, (both which I do have and have used often in the past) There are no distractions because it’s not an app on my phone. Its power is in its exclusivity for reading. The size of the page is more equivalent to a book than a phone is. It has a satisfying swish when I tap to turn the page. It has an amazing battery life particularly in comparison to a phone. I do love trying new things and I do love electronics and I especially love it when it turns out in the happiest of ways.
- Weighted Leather Bookholder ~ This is the handiest accessory when I’m taking notes from a book or holding pages to copy a quote. It can also be used to hold your book open while you read, but I tend to use it mostly for the former.
- Bookmarks ~ I do love a good bookmark. Like stickers or enamel pins or mugs, there are so many great bookmarks with bookish quotes or a multitude of interests to be featured. I am always reading multiple books and I have many books around my house with faithful bookmarks holding my place until I return.
- And what’s a bookish list without a couple of books?! Here are two books I’m currently reading and loving them both a lot, a lot. Both books have me happily anticipating the next time I’m able to jump back in the story.
The Things We Never Say by Elizabeth Strout
