Letters form words beneath my thumbs. I tap the green arrow and my question flies into the multiverse of messages.
Across the state and across the country my friends’ phones light up with my query. What’s a win for you this week?
Later in the day I tap my keyboard and share my wins in our WhatsApp thread. I think about my response.
It involves coffee and words.
It involves what is fun to me. Neither is earth shattering.
Yet, I categorize them in the win category because they breath life into me. One friend notes a relaxed schedule with open time for binge reading.
A win. A breathing of life.
I posed the question What’s a win for you and then, I admit, it gave me pause.
What we ask, how we ask it, the words we ask with, change our direction, point us in a trajectory. At first, it felt like I should have a grandiose answer.
Shouldn’t a win be large and earthquaking and award worthy?
Aren’t winners shiny and spectacular and stupendous? Probably pedigreed.
Shouldn’t it be a huge accomplishment? Most likely one that involved blood, sweat, and tears.
And then my consciousness nudged me. A win, my soul reminded, is defined by added delight in your very own life.
A win brings lightness of heart, shoulders squared, lips curved at the corners.
A win is what you choose it to be.
Small wins = great joy over time.
A win could be planning a motorcycle trip.
A win could be floors freshly swept.
A win could be turkey and gouda on rye.
A win could be a series of artwork, completed.
A win could be mastering that complicated series of chords.
A win could be a Route 44 limeade on this 92° day.
A win could be shoes of soft scalloped leather.
A win could be {the canine kind} finding your favorite orange puppy toy hidden in the grass and promptly chewing on it the rest of the afternoon.
A win could be finding fun photos in your inbox.
A win could be naming something for what it is and sitting with it. A win could be getting a notification for your long awaited audiobook hold.
A win could be spaghetti for dinner.
A win could be wildflowers in neat rows.
A win could be ____________________.
