The pathway was shady and the weather that perfect mix of sunshine and seventy as I placed sneakered feet on the sidewalk and set out along the walking trail in the park. It was peaceful and pretty and then, around a bend, the bright orange cones signaled a roadblock ahead.
The ground and sidewalk were littered with branches and I found my feet leaving the path I had set out on, and going in a different direction to bypass the tangle.
Isn’t this exactly how life can feel at times?
It can be a walk in the wilderness or a walk in the park. We’re out for a stroll through the park and then right in the middle of our shady, spacious place we hit a roadblock. It’s a detour we weren’t expecting and certainly didn’t plan for.
My recent prayer list holds some of these people and needs…
• a friend looking for a job
• a friend’s mother battling pain
• an older woman dealing with sciatic pain
• a first time expectant mama dealing with pregnancy issues and an imminent early arrival • a friend with recurring headaches
• a friend walking through loss and suffering
I’m guessing you don’t have to look very far for your prayer list to hold some of the same.
Likewise, I don’t have to look very far in my own life to find needs and cares and a desire for prayers.
These are the times we find ourselves thanking God for the people He places in our lives.
To care. To share. To help us as we stumble towards the detour sign. To reach out a hand to steady the friend beside us as they face the hard thing.
This going together. Lightening loads a little. Doing what we can, where we can.
Christ comforting us all.

Great post! We so often think about our own detours, but it’s true that others are facing detours too. Great reminder!
