We awoke to the most gorgeous blanket of snow we’ve seen on our Kansas plains in a long while. Cedar branches powdered, porch posts piled, and my round outside table blanketed.
I gazed in awestruck admiration out my front window. Venturing to the basement door, I flung it open for a few frosty pictures. Retreating back up to the warmth of the kitchen, I soon had the teakettle singing in accompaniment with the coffeebean grinder.
As daylight hours marked midmorning, I began to gather my long, navy coat from the coat closet, warm socks from the dresser drawer, and snowboots from the shelf.
Bundling into their intended warmth and settling my blush pom beanie on my head, I headed for a ramble in the woods.
The snow was too gorgeous and this event too rare to miss.
Pushing my phone into my pocket for picture taking, I called for Miss Jackie for company.
Stepping across the fenceline, the trees greeted me inside with peace and glorious beauty.
The very Narnia-like look prompted me to keep an eye out for Aslan and a hope as well.
But every time something bounded from the brush, it was Miss Jackie herself.
As I reveled in the splendid woodland, pausing to snap one photograph and then another, these words ran in my mind and felt so appropriate for this season, this year.
“And as He spoke, He no longer looked to them like a lion; but the things that began to happen after that were so great and beautiful that I cannot write them. And for us this the end of all the stories, and we can most truly say that they all lived happily ever after. But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on for ever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.” ~ C.S. Lewis
“I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now…Come further up, come further in!” ~ C.S. Lewis
Further Up! Further In!
What could be any better at all than a compelling story where each chapter is BETTER than the one before?
This is our promised Hope. Because of Jesus’ advent, life, death, and resurrection.
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” ~ Philippians 1:21
