Luke 1:46-50 ~ “And Mary said:
My soul praises the greatness of the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, because He has looked with favor on the humble condition of His servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed, because the Mighty One has done great things for me, and His name is holy. His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear him.”
Praise.
Rejoicing.
Favor.
In Mary’s song of praise, why does she say all generations will call her blessed?
Because of her great skill? Her athletic ability? Her musical talent? The town she hails from? Perhaps the numbers in her life? Her social status? Because she’s known for her kindness? Her gift for holding a crowd’s attention? Is it the bountiful banquets she displays to perfection?
Her just-right family smiling in their matching #blessed sweater sets and khakis? Oh, she excels at knowing the right words to say? Or is it her way of muscling through all the to-dos with agility and speed? Perhaps the way she looks?
Her song of praise isn’t about her at all.
Her soul praises.
Her spirit rejoices.
She continually turns it all back to God. His greatness. His faithfulness.
All generations will call her blessed because THE MIGHTY ONE HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR HER, AND HIS NAME IS HOLY. {emphasis, mine}
His mercy carries from generation to generation.
There is beauty in musical talent and celebration in athletic ability. I adore a beautiful banquet and believe kindness is a world changer. God has gifted us, granted this earth, myriad after myriad of good and beautiful things.
.
Yet, at the end of the day, at the beginning of the day, at the middle mundane and the plans went awry, may I never forget to turn back gratefulness and praise to my Father who sees me.
His name is holy.
He has done great things.
He does not forget mercy.
My spirit will rejoice in the favor of my God and my soul will hope in my Jesus the Christ.
May you have a Blessed and Merry Christmas!
