This past weekend was the 23rd Indian Peace Treaty Pageant in Medicine Lodge.
We attended the pageant in 2000, when our daughter was 9 months old. They’ve held the pageant every three years, since I’m not sure when. In 2006 they decided to wait five years before doing it again, making 2011 the year. We attended the parade in 2003 and 2006, but this year we took it all in. Our kiddos are old enough to enjoy it and there was talk of the possibility of the pageant not being held again.
We arrived at 10:00 for the parade.
We got there just in time to watch a Navy Seal parachute down from a helicopter. It was really awesome. And just because it’s interesting, the Navy Seal was a female.
We didn’t arrive in time to hear them announce that Martina McBride would be singing the national anthem. We heard her sing, which was really awesome, too. We just didn’t know till after the fact who we were hearing. Martina is from Sharon, a tiny little town not too far from Medicine. So, we didn’t see her or get any pictures. Oh well..
The parade was filled with all kinds of fun things.
Indians~
Antique tractors~
Shriners~
Old cars~
Pageant People~
Horses and Wagons~
Floats~
Fire Trucks~
And much more! There was plenty of candy thrown out to the kids, plenty of gunshots, and plenty of noise. Definitely a successful parade!
